Mountain Gear can supply all of your climbing needs - whether you need aid gear & big wall gear for Greenland, or bouldering gear for Castle Rock, they've got it all - at decent prices. And let's not start talking about the ski selection that I drool...

Miserable

Avoid this store at all costs! I ordered The North Face Sprinkles hat in Purple on Jan. 1, 2007 because I wanted it to match my down jacket in Purple. They sent me the Sprinkles scarf instead. When I called I was assured that they would send the hat immediately. It was supposed to ship yesterday, 1-8. I got a call this morning saying that they were sorry, but the hat was now out of stock. They had it last week, but because they made a mistake and send me the wrong item, I can no longer get the hat. I will never buy from Mountain Gear again!

I had a very good experience with this store. I had some questions about the gear. The customer service staff was very knowledgeable and gave me accurate and straight-forward answers. The gear was shipped very quickly - I received it earlier than expected.

Ruining your plan

If you plan to buy something from Mountaingear.com, you better have plan B, because they can tell you they don't have in stock after you made a legitmate order, even everything shown on the website telling you they do and can ship out to you the second day. Their customer serice is the worst I have ever seen, inresponsible and rude. They don't want to take any responsiblity.

Poor Service, Slow Shipping, lack of Customer Care, Intriguingly nice catalog.

I have been trying to have a successful buying experience form Mountain
gear for three years now. I have been extremely unsatisfied with no
less than four attempts. I have experienced, excessively slow shipping,
overcharges on shipping, and most frequently out of stock items. Hey
M.G. if its out of stock, take it off your web site!! Customer satisfaction
is non existent I am still waiting for a $4.95 overcharge. Out of stock items
are left for you to figure out
.without any notation on your receipt, no e-mail,
just a partially filled box with some of your stuff
. I am now giving up.
PS dont let the great looking catalog fool you, order from REI, EMS, Campmor,
Gear Express
. Always top notch!!!!!

Do not use Mountain Gear if you have problems with Fedex deliveries!

I made a significant order for climbing equipment from Mountain Gear and encountered difficulty with their deliverer Fedex. Basically Fedex could not deliver to my home address without someone present to accept the package and the goods needed to be returned to Mountain Gear. Mountain Gear customer service did not want to receive the returned shipment and resend via another deliverer to my address. The communication chain between Mountain Gear and Fedex went for nearly ten days without any resolve.
In the end I had to organize and pay for a courier to deliver the goods from the remote Fedex warehouse to my home address.
Clearly this is unacceptable by any shopper. If you have a problem with Fedex delivering to your address I strongly do not recommend you use Mountain Gear for your future purchases.
Otherwise the order when finally received was complete and all items were in good condition. This was the only positive experience I had dealing with this company.

Bad inventory database and no backorder notification!

I ordered a backpack from them on Wednesday Nov. 30. According to the website, the item was in stock and would ship within 2 business days. After not receiving a ship notice on Friday, I called on Saturday to see what was going on. They said they were transferring the item from their retail store and it should ship Monday.
I noticed on Monday that the website now said my item was on backorder. I called to see what the deal was, again, and was told they didn't have the item, it was on backorder, and they had no idea when it would ship. Great. Thanks for letting me know. I canceled my order on the spot and when I asked for a confirmation email for the cancellation, the service rep told me he'd send it, but "it might be awhile."
Bottom line, if the status of your order changes, they won't communicate it to you, you'll have to call and check. Their inventory database is not up date. If you expect speedy delivery and accurate info, this is not the retailer for you.
