Orbitz sells services on their web site that don't exist. by pjacksmom ,Aug 02 '04
I purchased a Super Shuttle voucher for my father to and from the airport and hotel. When he got to his destination, not only didn't the shuttle driver not know anything about the voucher, once my father convinced him the service was already paid for, he had to wait an hour before a driver would take him to the hotel.
Going to the airport he called the shuttle, was told one was on the way, then told there was none in the area and finally told to take a taxi to the airport. Orbitz customer service says basically, they're sorry, but they hope we continue to use their services. (Not gonna happen.)
My father is 65 years old. I arranged for this and now I'm sorry I trusted Orbitz at all.
I will never use them again - simple as that by walterk55 ,Oct 13 '04
Not an experience I will repeat again.
I had to cancel my trip to Paris. The round trip ticket cost $431; they cancelled the reservation, but now when I reschedule, I will have to pay a $30 Orbitz fee plus a $200 ticket reissuance fee plus the difference in price between the first flight and the second. Some bargain! Oh well, this is how companies lose customers. Eventually I will use the credit (Orbitz gives you a year in which to do so) and I'll apply less than half of what I paid for the first cancelled flight towards the new flight.
AND THEN THEY WILL NEVER HEAR FROM ME AGAIN.
EVER.
Avoid Orbitz for international travel by steverob ,Nov 04 '08
This is a story of literally getting stranded in the desert by Orbitz. I was outside Cairo when this happened.
After booking my travel through Orbitz, I added an extra night with the local hotel directly. They were happy to make the change, and asked me to confirm with Orbitz as there was an administrative hold up on the Orbitz side.
I spent 30 hours trying to contact Orbitz to make the change. Instead of listening to my problem, they asked me to cancel and rebook my entire itinerary. When I tried to do so, their systems showed the hotel as booked when the front desk insisted the hotel was not booked.
As a result, I did not have a place to stay during one night of my trip and had to consider unappealing choices such as sleeping in lobbies or other public places. I ended up paying directly in local currency to get a room at the hotel.
I have found Orbitz straightforward for domestic travel. But please do not trust them for international travel, as their local partners did not trust them either in my experience. Orbitz lacks the staff and communications infrastructure to support changes to international itineraries.
Disappointing customer service by mudley ,Nov 12 '06
I booked a hotel through ORbitz in Auckland one night precruise. They were showing the lowest rate for this property. Subsequently, I learned the hotel although just renovated was being added on to and there is ongoing construction above the property where they are adding condo residences, The pool is not available either. Orbitz neglected to mention this at all. Further, the price through the hotel's website dropped and included breakfast. Orbitz would not adjust the price or add breakfast. They never addressed the ongoing construction issues either. Very disappointing service--many emails back and forth. I am ready to cancel and rebook directly with the property. Poor customer service on Orbitz's part.
Hotels: Buggy system and you pay for their errors by adykes ,Apr 06 '04
I recently attempted to reserve a hotel room via Orbitz. I went through the whole process, but in the end it never confirmed my room. I never got an email confirmation and it didnt appear in 'my profile.' I had to book another one at increased cost. Not only was I still billed for the initial room, but Orbitz took no responsibility for the problem and pushed it all on the hotel. Are they not the agent who is responsible for the booking?
Dont get me wrong, Orbitz is great 90% of the time when it works. Ive flown on them multiple times without incident. But if the hotel reservation doesnt process properly they will just bill you anyway. Their customer service consists of reiterating how their system is supposed to work. They will not acknowledge that it breaks down sometimes, which is insane because no system is 100% perfect.
If you cancel a hotel reservation, you may "orbit" your phone waiting for it! by weirick ,Oct 14 '03
Pray that you do not need to cancel a hotel reservation!
Orbitz will have you orbiting the phone waiting for it.
I booked a reservation at a Travelodge through Orbitz for 8/24/03 and 8/31/03 for my family. After they stayed at the hotel on 8/24, they told me to cancel the 8/31/03 reservation -- the hotel was absolutely filthy. So, on 8/26/03, I called Orbitz Customer Service and explained the situation and asked for a full refund, including the $25.00 cancellation fee. They said that they would put through the request for the full refund and email me in few days. Nothing. I did see that Orbitz hit my credit card on the 26th for the 8/31/03 reservation! They are quick to get THEIR money. I called back a second time in September and again they said that they would submit the request. This is now October 14th. I called again and they said that the request would be forwarded to some manager, and to call back tomorrow night. Since time is money, I have already lost in time what little I might have saved in hotel discounts! And I still don't have the refund!
Low prices; Pray there are no mistakes! by equalyzer ,Jun 17 '09
I bought tickets throught Orbitz and then made a change through them. They sent me the confirmation, but never actually paid the change fee to Northwest Arilines. So, I ended up with no ticket!
What I would like to have heard from Orbitz is that they would take care of it, get me on a flight, and pay for any differences. But, Orbitz has no such sense of ownership or customer service.
I spoke to a supervisor and then a "senior supervisor." They wouldn't let me speak to a manager. Their message was consistent: We'll "try" and we'll keep you updated. But, they would not commit to finding a flight at no additional cost to me.
Only after I promised to share this story on the internet, only them did they resolve the issue. 6 hours of phone argueing required.
Use their website only to research your hotel - Then call the hotel directly. You will save tons of money. Due to a hotel error I was given a receipt with the actual room charge ($428) and Orbitz charged me $545. When I called customer service, obviously I was not supposed to have this information as my questions were responded to with 'Err' 'Uhm' and the best - Total Silence. Then the lies of 'No one else can help you or knows the answer to your question'.
I will never use them again.
very bad experience with customer service by courenao ,Jan 16 '07
Be aware. I booked an air ticket together with a prepaid airport parking reservation. A couple of days later I found my air ticket reservation was cancelled! I never received any email notice. I called and was told that they couldn't get the airline's confirmation on the reservation. This totally screwed us my other arrangements which depended on my flight schedule. The customer representative said i should contact the airline myself to find out why no confirmation. This is not the worst part yet. They canceled my flight reservation but they went ahead charged my credit card for the parking reservation which was made together with the flight reservation. I called in again to cancel it but guess what, Orbitz customer service said the parking reservation was prepaid and no refund. This was rediculous. I had to make several phones and emails to finally get it refund, but got so exhausted.
Will never book anything on Orbitz!
Good, but watch out for bait-n-switch prices. by mysticmilt ,Feb 05 '04
Orbitz can be a great source for good prices on airline tickets, hotels, and car rentals. However, I believe that they are deliberately misleading when it comes to quoting rates, at least when it comes to hotels. Over the last few weeks I have been keeping an eye on hotels in Charleston, SC. Every time I have gone to Orbitz, entering the same information, the same trip dates, I have seen several hotels listed that show a really great price, and when I click on the "select" button to go to the next page, there's a message at the top of the next page that says that the rates have changed since I made my selection (yeah, right). Now the per-night room rate is over $100 than it was quoted on the previous page. Furthermore, I know that this is not just a fluctuation of rates, as they're claiming, because as I've said I've seen this happen over and over doing the same search with the same dates over the last several weeks. It's a really crappy practice on their part.
Nightmarish and traumatic experience by beshle ,Jul 07 '07
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use Orbitz. Our flights were cancelled apparently months before our trip and the company never informed us. We discovered this when we called the night before our trip to confirm our flights. It took almost 4 hours to reach a customer service agent who could get us new flights. It was downhill from there. EVERY DAY of our vacation was full of trying to reach Orbitz personnel on the phone. They are completely inaccessible and often the phone gets disconnected while you are on hold. We had emails that were not responded to and one mishap after another. THIS RUINED OUR VACATION. We finally got flights home after we booked them ourselves and Orbitz called us approximately 11 hours before our flight home! And.... what does Orbitz see as its responsibility to us?? Pretty much, nothing. "We're sorry for the difficulties of your travel."
I repeat dear traveller, spare your self the agony of dealing with this inept, inefficient, discombobulated company and NEVER use ORBITZ!! I know we surely will not.
Completely and absolutely terrible, I WILL NEVER USE again by testfast1 ,Sep 17 '09
DO NOT USE. I had one small incident when my flight was delayed so I missed my hotel reservation. YOu know what orbitz did? They deleted my account so I couldn't log in and when I try to contact them they tell me they can't find any record.
I've spent over $10k USD since I fly frequently and one hotel reservation complaint made Orbitz delete me.
WARNING: NO customer support, if you have a problem it's your loss not theirs. I give you my damn word.
TERRIBLE, UNPROFFESSIONAL, TOTALLY UNCAPABLE OF THE SERVICES ORBITZ.COM CLAIMS TO PROVIDE. by bunsunny ,Jul 02 '07
Orbitz.com SUCKSSSSSSSSSSss...........
I and my friends booked a motel at Lake Tahoe,CA through orbitz during the winters and went there. This was one of those long weekends when you dont find anything on the spot and have to plan everything in advance.
So, we made the reservation well-in-time.
The day we were supposed to arrive there, we had a terrible accident on our way. Luckily, all of us survived scratchless but our car got totalled.
We somehow, managed to reach the motel around 2am and came to know that the motel people were never informed by Orbitz about the reservation.
Orbitz had sent us the confirmation email with the number stating the reservation has been made but nothing to the motel. You could imagine our situation on that freezing night. No car, no accomodation, nothing.
God bless the motel owners who gave us some blankets and accomodated us in a closed space outside the rooms, otherwise dont how we would have survived that night.
Moreover, when my friend tried to talk to the customer support, they hung up on him TWICE.
Veyr frankly, I, and all my friends and family, are NEVER, EVER going to shop with orbitz.com again.
Package offers are not Good by ozajignesh ,Jul 23 '07
This web-site is the worst site to be with. I am being charged very high for the hotel in Flight + Hotel package. Also customer service is very bad. There is not adjustments after booking & very high cancellation fee is charged. They fool us actually by attracting that you will save more money in combined packages. Actually they charge more & charge does not appear that how much you are paying for flight , hotel , car.
My recommendation is do not use this web-site
