Worst experience I have ever encountered and will never use them again.  The fees to cancel a trip are ridiculous.  They change your selected seats on flights without telling you.  Never received email confirmations even though I called three times.  Customer service calls go outside of the U.S. and they are not very helpful.  Horrible experience!!

Orbitz is okay unless you need customer service, for example to cancel your booking and get a credit to your account. Then you will have to deal with the worlds worst automated voice response system and be on hold for at least an hour.

Horrible Customer Service!

Shopping was great but my flight was canceled so I had to reschedule. I am now on the phone for the 3rd hour. I spent the first 2 hours rescheduling (this was 2 days ago). I thougth everything was fine and scheduled. Today I noticed my itinerary hadn't changed from the original. So I basically wasted 2 hours - 2 painful hours. I spoke with a foreign call center 2 days ago and I am now on the phone with the same call center.

They do not understand me. It's not difficult. My flight was canceled and Orbitz should be accomodating in helping me with the change. Instead, I am wasting time. I am a patient person but this is rediculous.

I will never use Orbitz again!

Unpleasant Buying Adventure

Orbitz, LLC (dba Orbitz.com and Orbitz) failed to deliver June 2005 flights it sold me in March 2005, failed to manage multiple airline-initiated changes in my travel itinerary (after promising repeatedly to do so), failed to collect schedule-change fees from two airlines for major changes in schedule (involving substantial time, inconvenience, a $130 2.5-hour taxi ride, and take-offs and landings in multiple places not part of the itinerary for which I paid Orbitz), failing to re-ticket (and sending me twice at my own expense to an airline office not convenient to my home or work for re-ticketing). If I wanted to make multiple visits to an airline office, I wouldn't have used an on-line travel agent. For flights, Orbitz's travel agent services and customer service were throughly substandard. The hotel bookings that were part of the same trip were as-agreed and without adverse incident. Regarding air travel, Orbitz has been very poor to deal with and completely unwilling to resolve the consequences to me of Orbitz's actions. I have been seeking corrective action for over six months. I certainly ended up spending more money at the back end than I thought I was saving at the front end.

obnoxious customer service reps- confusing website- a disastrous day of flying- $60 in cab fare to CHANGE AIRPORTS between flights (well, it should have been obvious when you booked the flights ma'am). Still seething and feel i will never have this resolved.
i am an experienced world traveller and i have NEVER such a bad experience with a travel web site. i will never use orbitz again and will spread the word to everybody i know. did i mention the evil customer service people? can i mention them again? i haven't met anybody that nasty in a long time and i live in boston!

Awful and Inconvenient

The first time Orbitz messed up for me was in Mexico, when we discovered that Orbitz had sent us to a non-existent car rental agency, We ended up without a car and many dollars worth of taxi bills.
The second time Orbitz messed up was when we arrived at a hotel only to find that Orbitz still hadn't confirmed our reservation with them! We ended up waiting for an hour and a half before just booking a room with that hotel.
The third time, this time, Orbitz cancelled my hotel reservation without my permission. Then, they charged me for the entire stay! Wow, Orbitz sucks. I have used every site online and I have to say, Orbitz is the worst. Customer service is off; Orbitz doesn't even know what's going on; no proper contact with the hotels they manage.
I will be sure to tell everyone I know and every review site I can find to avoid Orbitz unless they want to spend an hour of their time trying to rectify a mistake that Orbitz made.

Reservation system mangles names: Can't handle suffix

Orbitz can't/won't give me a ticket that matches the name I input when purchasing the ticket. One can't get on an airplane today without a government issued photo ID that EXACTLY matches the name on the ticket. I have a Roman Numeral III suffix on my name, which is on my Passport and Drivers License.

The web site took the suffix and displayed it correctly up until I purchase the ticket. When I got the email confirming the ticket purchase the suffix had disappeared. I complained to Orbitz. The responded by notifying the airline of the discrepancy. That's not good enough. Suppose on the day I fly security is as tight as it can be. Think they'll let me on the plane?

This ticket was for a domestic flight. The airline told me there was no way I'd be let on an international flight with the name mismatch.

<a>Read the fine print when dealing with Orbitz; in particular, anything regarding making any changes to your itinerary.  If you do not keep the exact itinerary that you book with Orbitz, you will pay dearly and will be left totally frustrated.  Contacting their TLC team is total waste of time since customer service is not within their job description.  I paid the price, both in money and frustration, and do not want to see anyone go through what I did.   If there is anything that could affect your being able to keep your travel plans, then go somewhere else … Orbitz is not for you!!

Orbitz hotel rates are a rip off!!

Orbitz does NOT sell discount hotel rates. They sell over priced rates claiming they are a deal. Then they charge you fees for this "great deal". Do not book anything till you call the hotel directly.

Make sure Orbitz gives you enough time to make your connecting flight.

Customer Service at Orbitz not up to par. I recently booked my flight for a trip to Europe through Orbitz. Only upon arriving in London did I realize that the booking did not allow me to make my connecting flight out of Heathrow, and this had nothing to do with delays or security checks. As a result, I waited several hours in Heathrow for another flight. I was faced with the same dilemma on my way back to the US and ended up purchasing an extra ticket for 390 Euros. When I called Orbitz seeking some type of compensation, once the phone rep knew why I was calling, I was put on hold for close to 10 minutes, then told there was nothing they could do for me.

Fast and efficient, but the fees are riduculous and shady

I had to make a reservation for a company trip, which went smoothly. The website is friendly and easy to use.

My HUGE problem with these guys is the shady fees they charge. I called and asked a question about the existing reservation I had and was charged $16 for an "agent assist" fee. I made no changes in the reservation and just asked a simple question which was answered in about one minute. They did not tell me at the time they were charging me, the charge just appeared on my card and I had to call and find out what it was.

They are "looking into it" now, but I will be disputing this charge and will never use Orbitz on my own. This comes pretty close to outright theft in my book.

What a scam when it comes to bookings in small towns. Obviously, a booking agency like Orbitz only makes money on bigger ticket bookings.  Checked in to the Days Inn Van Horn Texas today.  The Orbitz booking cost us $67 a room.  The lowest price offered was $60.  This is a truck stop town, there are plenty of motels and they go as low as $29.  When we checked in, the guy at the desk accidentally started to book us in at a rate 28% cheaper that what we had already paid online.  Update:  If that wasn't bad enough, on the way back to California we checked into a Best Western in Blythe, no reservation, $89.00 for the night.  Once in the room, I checked the Orbitz rate: $109.00 FOR THE SAME ROOM! Orbitz not only omits the cheap motels, it overprices the medium priced ones. If you sort Orbitz reviews by date, most of the good reviews are years old.  BTW: Priceline was even worse in Texas.

Poor customer service, lots of hassle

I've used Orbitz a couple times to book airline tickets and found you can run into all kinds of problems vs. booking with the airline directly. If you wind up having to cancel the ticket, the credit does not go back to the airline and the airline does not recognize you have the credit. Instead you have to book through Orbitz and the credit may only be valid for that airline.

In another situation, Orbitz booked a code share ticket using the wrong ticket number, so the operating airline did not recognize it as valid for web check-in. This matters if you need to check baggage since doing so at the airport may wind up costing more. Called their Customer Service and they would do nothing to remedy the situation, even though it was their fault.

These types of issues wind up costing more time & money than it's worth. Not to mentioned, in most cases, their price is no better than booking directly. Also think their low-price guarantee is mostly a gimick. I've learned the hard way the downside of booking through Orbitz, think twice before using them.

Don't use orbitz. Enough said. I reserved seats using Orbitz when I booked my flight through their service over a month in advance. I checked repeatedly, up until my departure, and their website showed I had those seats. Naturally, the day of the flight it turns out Orbitz had 'requested' those seats on my behalf. Apparently, all that means is that they display on the Orbitz website that we have those seats. This means nothing. When it turned out that the airline had no seat assignments for my family, Orbitz informed me there was nothing they could do for me. Ever sit in a middle seat in a row separate from your husband holding a 17-month-old on your lap for a 6-hour flight? Don't use orbitz.

I'd always had good experiences with my reservations through Orbitz. Recently, I had an issue with Dollar Rent A Car charging me for insurance that I'd already purchased through Orbitz. Orbitz responded quickly when I notified them of the problem and refunded the charges for the double coverage. I'm definitely glad I reserved the car through Orbitz and would use their services again (will choose a different car rental company next time though).
