We had a horrible experience with this company. DO NOT USE! It started with the shades for our front room and son's bedroom. To make sure we did it right the first time, we had the company's in-home design consultant come out. And things went wrong from ...
Over a period of three months, we placed five on-line orders (for a total of 15 blinds) with Smith+Noble, and with only one exception there was something wrong with every order. In several instances, blinds arrived dented or broken (the result of poor ...
They burnt my house down!!! by onfire111 ,Feb 20 '08
I ordered these blinds online and two days later someone drove out to my house in a smith & noble van and burned my house down! I couldn't believe it! Now that I have received my blinds, I dont have anywhere to hang them!
Nothing but praise for their products by anniehenry ,May 02 '06
Wow, I'm shocked at all the bad prior reviews, I've had no problems with Smith_Noble drapes and I've ordered from them three times over the years. Twice I've bought honeycomb shades and most recently I bought custom fabric shades. The products are lovely, I've never been disappointed and I've always gotten exactly what I ordered with no delays and no missing parts. Honeycomb shades are not very easy to install, I sympathize with the reviewer who had trouble, but ours probably took 30 minutes to get on, not 3 days!
I'd order from them again, definitely. I only wish they were cheaper.
Great window treatments for less by shanti100 ,Oct 29 '05
I have ordered all kinds of blinds, roller shades and drapes from this company. They have always been helpful and so long as you are careful with your measurements, I have never had a problem that was not rectified immediately. One item came the wrong size and they told me to keep it and reordered a new one for me. Another time, the drapes came without the hooks, but they sent the hooks for free after I called.
I love their materials and customer service has always checked to make sure that they are ordering what I want. I think this company provides excellent service, great products at great prices.
Very happy with the variety of window coverings I have ordered over the years! by orangeca ,Oct 04 '07
I have ordered about four times with Smith & Noble, getting ready to place another order. Probably have spent about $3000. I have never had any problem with my order. Once I accidentally ordered an expensive set of blinds to cover a set of sliding doors but misunderstood the two on a rail concept and double ordered. I was given credit for the second set after giving proof of donating the extra set to the Goodwill. Obviously, I thought this was a generous gesture on their part due to the expense. The range of window coverings I have ordered have been well made and of good quality. I think their assortment of bamboo is phenomenal, definitely my favorite. I will continue to order from Smith & Noble!
We have ordered quite a few items from Smith and noble: drapes for the bedroom (light darkening), several roman shades (inside and outside mount), wood woven roman shades, and hardware. I am always happy with the quality and installation is fairly straight forward. Once they sent us the wrong product (3 wood wovens with valences rather than water-fall) but they re-sent us the correct ones after a phone call. Overall I like them and would order from them again.
Slow, inaccurate, uncaring and unhelpful employees by prhartnett ,Dec 27 '05
My experience was terrible. I was charged 20% of the order, in this case over $60, to have the items shipped to Hawaii. For the amount I paid, the items could easily have been sent 2nd day air. When it arrived 5 days later than promised it was not what was ordered. The telephone rep was ok, but her supervisor apparently believes that the customer is usually wrong and her job is to lecture you about it. Instead of seamlessly making it right, I have to jump through hoops to get the right order. They require me to send the order again in writing -- so they have a record of it -- despite the fact I was speaking to them on the telephone. To receive credit I have to either ship the blinds back at my expense, or donate them to charity and fax them the the donation receipt. They don't trust their customers apparently. I will not be ordering from them again. Overall I am very dissatisfied.
Poor shipment tracking and communication with their fabrication warehouses by steph11279 ,Aug 22 '07
I ordered flat roman shades from Smith and Noble and have yet to receive them. I placed the order on 8/5 and according to their website they were shipped on 8/10, however UPS (until today 8/22) had no record of receiving the shipment. Hopefully I will get my order in the next couple of days however I am very unhappy with the shipping (on Smith and Nobles part) and accuracy of my order status as reported on the Smith and Noble website. In the last week I have made 3 phone calls to Smith and Noble customer service. Although they were all pleasant to speak with, not one of them could tell me the status of my order. When you spend over $1,000 and a pretty penny for shipping, I don't know about you but my expectations are much higher.
Experience at online store was great-honeycomb shades look great, but when I put them up in my infant's room--as soon as the sun hit them they began to have a very toxic paint smell. I WOULD NOT suggest them for a babies room for this reason alone.
Polite but clueless. To many unknowns. Won't use again. by eekie1 ,Apr 20 '08
We purchased curtain rods from Smith and Noble. They item was backordered, so I selected another item. After a good while, I called to check on the status and was told that the new item was dicontinued. I asked to cancel the order, and they supposedly did. Two weeks later the rods showed up. I called to ask about returning since we had purchased new ones from Pottery Barn. They said they couldn't take them back (custom order) and would need a receipt showing I donated them in order to refund my money. I got the reciept, and had not turned it in when two days later the charge was refunded. An interesting solution. However, clearly the customer service doesn't have a clue (they are polite while they are being clueless).
Positive: The selection and quality is great. The web site is easy to navigate.
Cons: Customer service is spotty, and the right hand seems not to now what the left hand is doing.
I have to order shades now, and I am not using them because I fear more major screwups and the installation.
Could not recommend them - quality control is lacking by whiteface ,Jun 30 '06
I have had some real problems with a remake of a blind from Smith and Noble. We are going on the 3rd remake trying to get it right. I wanted a refund to go elsewhere - they refuse and would rather make the blind 100 times than give money back. The honeycomb fabric is nice - quality control leaves much to be desired.
Marketing department over promises -production under delivers. by gordonhu ,Aug 15 '06
Materials ordered came very fast.
Brackets were cheap and looked it. (is it worth smith + noble saving a penny to have a terrible looking bracket?)
Shades were wrong size (some measuring 38 1/8" were longer than those
measuring 38 3/4"
Customer service was unable to get answers, promised "urgent" status, never called back. Received replacement bracket for (1) one shade, but they didn't have any more.
Not enough value or quality for the price by llmd ,May 26 '07
I ordered large pleated shades for living room, and both large and small Durawood blinds for bedrooms and baths. Half of the blinds arrived cracked and warped. The company sent replacement blinds. However, I have been really disappointed in all of their performance in my home. These window treatments were very pricey, and none of them have held up. The pleated shades fray on the ends, and the resulting "strings" get tangled up in the loop control and make it difficult to raise and lower them. The Durawood blinds have weak cording and several of them have broken at least one of the cords holding the slats, so that it is impossible to raise them evenly. In addition, the Durawood material creates a static that attracts dust, pollen and dirt in the air leading to constant cleaning. Not enough value for the price. Strongly recommend checking out JC Penny for window treatments that work and cost so much less.
