We had a generally negative experience with S&N. When I ordered my blinds, I could not find out the status of my order online and when I called, the person could not find out about my order and didn't call me back for several days. When my blinds finally arrived, each was about a half inch too short (blackout blinds no less, oh well). Also, the mounting system is such that once the blinds are up, they are nearly impossible to take down. I gave up and just accepted that the blinds would not be right even if I could get a hold of someone there to help me. Now I know why S&N is cheaper than other blinds. You get what you pay for. I learned my lesson and will never use S&N again.

While selection and delivery were generally good we have been EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of the products we received. We ordered three of the honeycomb style blinds; two with the top down feature and one of the standard type. On the initial order we had to return one of the blinds 3 times because the mechanism arrived in a broken state each time! Weve had these blinds for less than a year and all of the mechanisms have now broken and were in the process of replacing all of them Within days of installation we were having issues; including small accent part falling off, shades coming unglued from the runners, and broken strings. Customer service was reasonable when replacing the broken shade 3 times over, but it was pretty obvious they though I was BSing them. After going though all these hassles I decided to just fix things as they broke myself since I am pretty handy, but over time they reappeared due to a generally bad design. I would definitely NOT recommend purchasing these blinds.

From our experience costumer service and standing by their product quality is not in their business plan.
Everything went well until the roman shades arrived. The wooden header of one of the blinds was broken - split during the installation of a mounting grommet in the factory. So much for quality control.
They also sent the wrong hardware - one was antique brass as we'd requested, but the other was white. We've now had a major hassle to get what we ordered in the first place. What a waste of time and money!

Look I can go on and on like so many other Smith and Noble victims but I won't take up your time with the horrid details. The bottom line is don't even think of dealing with them unless absolutely necessary. Very poor customer service once they have your money not to mention rude and down right nasty. I will go to the BBB and the CA. Attorney General's Office to get my money refunded.

I ordered honeycomb blinds (and not the cheep ones) for multiple rooms in my house, after 6 to 8 months the cord assembly used to raise and lower the blinds has broken on most of our blinds. We have had to tie the cords in various knots to keep them usable but now the blind don't lower all the way down (because the cords are now to short). Also, Smith+Noble really skimps on the length of their honeycomb blinds to begin with, if you say 42" long the blind just reach 42" after you manually stretch them each time you lower them. Add an extra inch or two when ordering to have some slack. Myself, I won't be ordering from them in the future.

I have been waiting for installation of 2 roller shades for 6 weeks!!!
The installer went to the wrong location and now to reschedule I have gone through 5 people and 10 telephone calls. Do Not Deal With These People 3rd. World Service and bordering on Scam.

I've never taken the time to write a review of any company before, but I wish I'd taken the time to read these reviews before I ordered from this company. They've bombarded me with near weekly catalogues for years, and I finally ordered five shades from them...the quality was poor, the construction was shoddy, the shades I ordered were not the shades I got, and the service was truly appalling. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told the wait would be 4-5 HOURS. I sent an email instead and got no response. I have to reorder the shades I need, because the ones S&N sent are unusable, but I'll order them from another company rather than give them another penny--and they want me to pay to remake for their mistakes! DON'T CONSIDER ORDERING FROM THIS COMPANY--the beautiful catalogs in no way correlate to the products they send.

We ordered the expensive cordless shades in custom sizes. We are on our third set now and have finally given up on their products. They are cordless so they have a mechanism that lifts the shades automatically. Great theory, but none of the three sets (12 shades total) have worked more than a few days. Now they just hang there and can not be raised. Brings tears to your eyes every time I enter the room and see all the wasted money hanging there.
I recently ordered linen flat roman blinds from smith & noble at a cost of over $1300. We were shocked to receive such poorly made blinds which quite frankly I could have made myself (uneven folds and visible staples showing and cords placed on the wrong sides). I called to express my disappointment at the quality of what was sent to us and the representative on the phone had asked me to take photos of the blinds which I sent to her immediately. A week later she called back to see if anyone had contacted me to which I said , "no", and that was the last I heard from them. I will never order from this company again.
Dido on the poor customer service! I ordered bedding from these guys and have yet to receive the product as I ordered it. Sure, they sent bedding, but not to the specifications that I ordered and paid $1,200 for. It seems like all the customer service reps are reading from a script "our products are custom made therefore we cannot give you a refund".
Give me a break...you throw something together and call it custom made? And I can't get get anywhere with customer service. When I ask for a manager, I get put on hold for 20 minutes and then they claim that he or she is in a meeting. But, they'll call me back. Yeah right!
So, if anyone can provide insight on how to get my money back, please do. I thought about trying to appeal the charges with my credit card company. So frustrating!!!!
Poor poor poor. I ordered 9 blinds, 5 were installed crooked by a Smith Noble installer. The wood valances included were a joke, it cost me $1,200 to have custom ones made that looked nice. My mom picked someone randomly out of the Pennysaver that did a fantastic job, I am SO glad I didn't have her purchase from this company. She got better quality blinds for half the price of what I paid and her standard valances were extremely nice. I cannot and will not recommend this company to anyone.

We recently ordered a Smith & Noble bottom-up, top-down roman shade. The product looks very nice (the material is great), but it was shipped with at least 3 defects. The cable-lock for the bottom-up does not catch, the blind does not pull up or down evenly, and the left side of the blind has strings that are tied shorter than the right, so even fully extended the blind hangs at an angle. We are in process of having the product "fixed" or returning the product. The return/repair process is _terrible_ (they consult with their "factory specialists" and then call back in 2-3 days), and this process repeats... Stay away from this company! If you have a problem, you will find them to be a HUGE HASSLE!

Aw. Too bad I didn't look at all the bad reviews here about S$N before blowing almost $700 on a roman shade.
So many of the comments here I can personally echo.
The swatch I ordered was golden, but the "custom" item came tan. Also the rod was missing completely and one of the wood rings was obviously a reject, with a screw hole in it, where it broke in transit, of course. Totally botched order. The moron who filled it must have done so with eyes closed. Customer service yaps but does nothing. They finally offered to have the factory run me another piece of fabric in the color of their swatch. Yeah, right. And they never sent the rod or new ring to match. Some advice: call your credit company asap to block payment. And then call BBB.

ORDERED FROM SMITH AND NOBLE BEFORE THANKSGIVING 2007 IT IS NOW 5 DAYS B4 XMAS AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN MY ORDER CORRECT. THE KEEP REPRODUCING IT WRONG OVER AND OVER AND OVER, MY CELL PHONE BILL IS COMICAL IF YOU SEE HOW MANY HOURS I HAVE SPENT WITH THEIR AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. WHAT IS SO IRONIC TO ME IS, THE ONLY THING THEY SEEM TO HAVE DONE QUICKLY AND CORRECTLY IS CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD! GO FIGURE THAT! MEAN WHILE I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CREDIT! BUILDING OUR $200,000 POLL WAS HONESTLY LESS STRESSFUL THAN DEALING WITH SMITH AND NOBLE. LOOK MY MOTO IS MISTAKES HAPPEN, THEY HAPPEN...BUT YOU DONT PAY A PREMIUM FOR MISTAKES THAT THEY CANT SEEM TO FIX, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MONTHS OF HEADACHES! it is not that they make mistakes! IT IS THAT THEY CANT FIND OR IMPLEMENT SOLUTIONS ONCE MISTAKES ARE DISCOVERED!!! ABSOLUTELY THEY WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH/ PLEASE PLEASE BUYERS BEWARE! I have given Smith + Noble three opportunities to keep my business, and each time they have failed me. I recommend that you learn from my mistakes and order your blinds elsewhere.
Problems I have had:
- S+N billed and did not ship the blinds
- S+N did not send the hardware needed to install the product - despite the hardware being listed in their own installation instructions.
- S+N sent the correct product "custom" made to the wrong specification (wrong cords, wrong placement of cords, valence too short for blind, etc.)
- It takes at least 3 calls (sometimes 5 or 7) to the customer service to get what you need, which is really only what you ordered in the first place.
- S+N can not color match their own product to replace a piece broken in shipping.
- When I called most recently, the computer system went "down" (while I was on the phone) and they were closing in 15 minutes so they couldn't help me with any more problems with my order.
Order only if you can endure calling multiple times just to get what you ordered (and receiving it weeks/months later).
