Poor shipment tracking and communication with their fabrication warehouses by steph11279 ,Aug 22 '07
I ordered flat roman shades from Smith and Noble and have yet to receive them. I placed the order on 8/5 and according to their website they were shipped on 8/10, however UPS (until today 8/22) had no record of receiving the shipment. Hopefully I will get my order in the next couple of days however I am very unhappy with the shipping (on Smith and Nobles part) and accuracy of my order status as reported on the Smith and Noble website. In the last week I have made 3 phone calls to Smith and Noble customer service. Although they were all pleasant to speak with, not one of them could tell me the status of my order. When you spend over $1,000 and a pretty penny for shipping, I don't know about you but my expectations are much higher.
I have been a long time shopper with Smith and Noble but as of 7/06 will never order another thing from them! I had a fabric shade stuck in customs for 3 weeks, got thru to Assistant to President and got results very fast! Shade came overnight but all hardware was broken. Also have been waiting for 4 weeks for monogrammed slipcovers and are having trouble with factory responses as to where they are. DO NOT SHOP AT SMITH AND NOBLE! They have moved most of their factories off shore and it is horrible! Customer Service gets an F and their quality in everything has gone way downhill!
Had a good experience with smith+noble a few years ago, thought I'd try it again. Put in a pretty expensive order for 3 honeycomb blinds. Two came pretty quickly. Tried to put them up, and the mounting hardware was impossible. Seriously. Part of the reason I used them was supposedly foolproof installation. Turns out that was only on *some* colors marked "new" on the website. Woulda been nice if they'd said that. Been over a month since I placed the order and the 3rd blind never showed up. Get the runaround every time I call- the first time they even said it shipped, but subsequent calls revealed it hadn't even been made yet. Awful. I would never order from them again.
Could not recommend them - quality control is lacking by whiteface ,Jun 30 '06
I have had some real problems with a remake of a blind from Smith and Noble. We are going on the 3rd remake trying to get it right. I wanted a refund to go elsewhere - they refuse and would rather make the blind 100 times than give money back. The honeycomb fabric is nice - quality control leaves much to be desired.
Too confusing: very difficult to simply order product. by truths ,Oct 18 '09
For the third time, I ordered and received durawood blinds from Smith+Noble; obviously, I must have liked the product. This last time, the blind I ordered has suddenly developed a problem: the decorative ladder tape is completely loosened from the blind, and now I see it was put on over a band of sticky tape. Cheap, cheap, cheap construction. This doesn't seem to be the case with previous orders.
Smith and Noble is horrible! I will never do business again with them. They send you the wrong size products that you did not order and then they won't take them back even though it's their fault. Their delivery is poor and takes far too long. And they are rude people on the phone.
Horrible! They sent me the wrong size blinds and would not take them back or correct the problem without me paying for it. Very rude customer service reps. I would NEVER, NEVER shop from them again!
They don't know their own products!!!! by sandylokey ,Jul 06 '09
Similar to other reviews, I ordered from Smith and Noble because of their products; however, the key reason was their seemingly easy installation guides on their website. However, I received my 3 shades, all very attactive, but with installation instructions for a different product. I called Customer Service, and they felt I was just looking at my product incorrectly, and advised me to remove a piece that I knew was not supposed to be removed. I sent them pictures, and they eventually believed that I had the wrong instructions, but kept saying they were having trouble locating the right instructions. They didn't even know what they had sent me! No instructions for my shades were on their website, either. One of my shades was defective, which is not a big deal since they quickly resent a different one. However, this one also had the wrong instructions. I had to get a handyman to help determine how to install - which was nothing like the installation directions. It was not a good experience!!
Smith and Noble: Scam artists, worst customer service by masonuc ,Mar 14 '07
Smith and Noble has the worst customer service on the planet. Yeah, they don't send you to India -- it is worse!
We ordered 3 shades, which appear to be of shoddy construction and cheap fabric. After three months of broken promises, failure to return calls, and general ineptitude -- they still are not installed! The process works like this: you call to schedule installation, they tell you installer will call within 48 hours. Nobody calls. You call back, they tell you installer will call back in 48 hours. Repeat 100 times. The people at customer service claim that they cannot schedule the appointment -- they can only "put you in the system" which means if you're lucky, you might get the shades installed before you die.
And forget about returning the shades or getting a credit when they are uninstalled for 6 months!
This company takes your money and lies every way they can Oh sure the service is top notch when you call the first time. Before you paid, everything goes smoothly. Once you pay, forget it.
Nothing but praise for their products by anniehenry ,May 02 '06
Wow, I'm shocked at all the bad prior reviews, I've had no problems with Smith_Noble drapes and I've ordered from them three times over the years. Twice I've bought honeycomb shades and most recently I bought custom fabric shades. The products are lovely, I've never been disappointed and I've always gotten exactly what I ordered with no delays and no missing parts. Honeycomb shades are not very easy to install, I sympathize with the reviewer who had trouble, but ours probably took 30 minutes to get on, not 3 days!
I'd order from them again, definitely. I only wish they were cheaper.
Very disappointing! They have great catalog and website but it took over a month to get my order and then it was the wrong color. Every time you call to get information the customer service representative has to send in a request and it takes 48 hours before you get an answer.
Great window treatments for less by shanti100 ,Oct 29 '05
I have ordered all kinds of blinds, roller shades and drapes from this company. They have always been helpful and so long as you are careful with your measurements, I have never had a problem that was not rectified immediately. One item came the wrong size and they told me to keep it and reordered a new one for me. Another time, the drapes came without the hooks, but they sent the hooks for free after I called.
I love their materials and customer service has always checked to make sure that they are ordering what I want. I think this company provides excellent service, great products at great prices.
My experience was horrible. I will never order from Smith and Noble again. by concernedone ,Oct 21 '09
BEWARE! Order from this company at your own risk!
Received poor quality natural woven blinds, complained and was sent another set, same poor quality. Complained again and was offered a "full" credit. Didn't receive the full credit (I am told that I am still obligated to pay the sales tax on the original order!), but I was stuck ordering another set again as they would not offer a full refund. Had to call customer service no less than 10 times to try to sort out the issue. This company has no clue what customer service means. Some of their reps were friendly and tried to help, others were rude and their goal seemed to be to pass the buck or say anything to get you off the phone. You may get lucky and get what you ordered with no problems, but trust me, you will regret ordering from this company if you have to try to solve any problem with them.
They burnt my house down!!! by onfire111 ,Feb 20 '08
I ordered these blinds online and two days later someone drove out to my house in a smith & noble van and burned my house down! I couldn't believe it! Now that I have received my blinds, I dont have anywhere to hang them!
Marketing department over promises -production under delivers. by gordonhu ,Aug 15 '06
Materials ordered came very fast.
Brackets were cheap and looked it. (is it worth smith + noble saving a penny to have a terrible looking bracket?)
Shades were wrong size (some measuring 38 1/8" were longer than those
measuring 38 3/4"
Customer service was unable to get answers, promised "urgent" status, never called back. Received replacement bracket for (1) one shade, but they didn't have any more.
