I have rather eclectic taste in music, so walking into Tower Records (Oakland) I felt like a kid in a candy store. Everything I'd been looking for at other stores/chains was right there at my disposal. From Do Wop classics such as the Cadillacs through the jazz Ramsey Lewis to the latest Outkast and Hip-Hop, I found everything I was looking for, and much more.
The sales staff was helpful and even community oriented, highlighting local artists trying to build a fan base.
For the above reasons and more, I make a trip to Tower Records whenever I'm in the Oakland area.
With reasonable prices and periodic price mark downs, my biggest problem with Tower Records was figuring out WHICH item I was going to have to leave behind.

I have *never* seen an online retailer's website as totally screwed-up as Tower Records' is.

Where do I start? Changing pages on the site will frequently reset your shopping cart to zero items, the system doesn't remember you after logging in if you move off the home page (how are you supposed to order without doing that?), the "Wishlist" function doesn't work at all (page times out), and probably worst of all - when I tried to checkout the system reset my cart from 7 items to 1 (!).

I give up - I will never go back to towerrecords.com until they fix the horrendous problems with their site, but if their website people are anything like their store employees I'm sure not holding my breath on that one.

Update: As of a week later they still haven't responded to any of my emails, even though I have delivery confirmations for all of them. Obviously nobody there gives a twit about fixing their horrendously broken website - save yourself the aggravation and avoid it.

I have purchased quite a few different things from TowerRecords.com. Delivery was prompt, orders were always correct and shipping was free over $20 which is always a good deal. They ask for feedback after your order, so you know they are always looking to improve. I was very satisfied and will continue to do business with TowerRecords.com.

My husband listens to a lot of metal bands that aren't available in "mainstream" stores & he has almost always been able to find what he is looking for here. I, however, like just about everything, classical, pop, metal, country, everything. Tower STILL has almost everything I'm looking for. The site is easy to navigate and overall a great source for music. Competitive prices.

They sent me the wrong record.  They wouldn't refund unless I sent the record back.  Sent the record back it's been almost a year and they still have not credited my credit card.  Ordered one more record considering it could have been a one time thing.  They still haven't even said anything once I paid for the order a week ago.  The order is still processing.  Does it really take over a week to process and order?  This is rediculous.  No wonder all their retail stores went under.  Once they have your money you won't hear from them. 

The prices are good and the selection is average, but the killer is the shipping length.  I placed an order for four items on the November 16th.  One was shipped the 18th and the other three the 24th (and they were not obscure items).  The one on the 18th was a new release CD.  It is December 1st, and I have yet to receive a single item and when I have written all I get is the statement that it could take from 8-15 days after shipping.  BTW I do not live in an out-of-the-way city either.  I've already received shipments from buy.com and ebay for orders placed after the 16th.  You might not get your orders for Christmas if you're just now placing your order.  Kinda ironic, I just got the Black Friday advertisement on Sunday...and it was emailed to me. 

I used to shop at cdconnection a lot but decided to try TowerRecords due to their cheaper shipping prices. I live in Taiwan and most of the CDs and DVDs I want are not available here. Anyway I placed an order for a couple of items and some of them were shipped within a few of days. But funny thing is that the items that were shipped earlier did not arrive yet and those shipped later have already arrived. Plus the first CD I got came without any wrap and showed clear signs of being used. After complaining to customer service I was told that some import CDs come without any wrapping (unbelievable!!!!!).It has been 28 days and I am still waiting for the item that was supposed to have been sent first> I think they have a warehouse on Mars. If you don`t live in US, forget about shopping at TowerRecords.com Online Store, waste of time.

I never received my order and my credit card was billed. The customer service representative I have been e-mailing (they do not have a phone number to call) said since it's only been 2 months since I placed the order, the CD may still arrive. A replacement will not be sent. Ugh!

My wife ordered me three DVDs before Christmas for my birthday. Before Christmas their policies and shipping policies somehow changed AFTER Christmas! Of course this meant that they decided to screw around and take several weeks to ship the items!

We were told not only would it take 8-15 days in transit (shipping) but that it had taken 8-10 days processing time also!!!

Its been 18 days since they were sent out, and I still haven't recieved them! To boot, when we initially called to inquire about the DVDs, we got the run around and they refused to put a supervisor on the phone with us. First saying there was no one there, then later saying they were busy and were not availible.

So, thank you Tower! So, far you've got our cash, and we've got nothing!

I have bought some wonderful Jazz Cd's from TowerRecords.com. On their site you can listen to a few moments of many of the tracks before deciding to buy a certain cd. The site is very easy to navigate. It seems like there are always sales, specials, new and used... I've even found some rare, hard-to-get things. Check out is easy. I did not like how the ordering process is online. I was confused if my information was registering when I punched it in. A new page kept popping up, and it was hard to get back to where I was at. In my experience, TowerRecords.com is really bad. I bought 4 CDs, and qualified for free shipping. But sooner I realize the package won't make it on time, so I decided to cancel to reoder with expedite shipping. I cancelled through the web, as they indicated, and via customer service email they provided, they didn't answer any of the request. During a week I have been trying to confirm my cancellation without an answer. They ignored my request, and processed the shipping after the 8 days. Ironic.

Tower Records was the most helpful site in helping me make my decision. I had the easiest time finding what i needed to find, great prices and great deals! Everyone should shop at Tower Records.

tower is very customer friendly. i ordered the special edition of disturbed's ten thousand fists. it was a pre order and they kept me up to date on what was happening. they ran out of this item before filling every order, mine included, and let me know. they were very helpful and understanding. the cd finally arrived at their store and was in my hands days later. it also came with a five dollar discount certificate. these guys are great to deal with.
