Opened Account and Never Received A Single DVD (Four Weeks)
by godog ,Sep 15 '05
I opened an account with NetFlix, created my DVD queue and waited and waited and waited. After four weeks never received a single DVD.

Reported the problem to their online customer service three times and never received any response. There is no phone number to call to get help.

So I closed the account at about the same time that NetFlix charged my credit card for the service. Attempted to get the charge reversed. So far no success.

I hated doing it, but I switched to Blockbuster (online) and they are working just fine.

I'll never go to a video store again!
by hartford_kate ,Aug 24 '05
I like netflix a lot, but I have to admit that I have had some issues since moving to a new address. I had questions about the transfer of my service, and have had no luck figuring out how to contact a real person. I have only received irrelevant form letters in response to my queries.

That said, netflix has, for the past 2 years, been an incredibly easy and reliable addition to my life of home entertainment. I highly recommend the company--just make sure to keep your queue updated! Some have said this is work--I think it is one of the most fun parts of netflix.

Netflix: Net-slooooowwww
by aexapo ,Jan 10 '06
Anyone can rent you a movie, and Netflix does that as well as the corner movie club. Just canceled their service. Reason? Over the last year, I had belonged to both Blockbuster.com and Netflix.com. I had switched to Netflix since they invented their service, plus Blockbuster's site seemed to be plagued with glitches all the time.

Boy, was I disappointed! I would order a movie, and I might get it by the third day. I gave them some time -- several months -- but still, the "turn-around" time was horrible. Sometimes it would be four days. And I live in a major metro area.

Yesterday, I switched back to Blockbuster.com (who seems to have fixed their online site), and ordered three movies that afternoon. This afternoon, they were in my mailbox! I made the right choice.

From good to BAD...
by poltergeistboy ,Mar 19 '05
Netflix is great in the beginning. One day shipping on new releases, fast turnaround, and quick responses. Netflix is also terrible after some time. If you are what Netflix considers a "Heavy User" they mark your account and slow down your shipments. New Releases suddenly take weeks to get since they are all in "Long Wait" to "Very Long Wait" status. Netflix admits that they give priority to their members who rent few movies per month. Those who rent more are penalized and get poor service. Netflix will then ignore any contact attempts or send automated pre-scripted responses. I am very disapointed. A drastic change in opinion from the beginning when I thought they were the best out there. Netflix definitely advertises falsely, and they apparently do not value or respect their members. For a very in depth look at Netflix with tons of user reviews see:

Promises, promises. Delay, delay, delay.
by myxstra2002 ,Dec 06 '05
NetFlix has good selection, convenient website, both of which are of no use if they don't deliver movies on time. During the trial membership you will be delighted. After that it's all down hill. Delay, delay, delay. We live so close to the service center that all our mail to and from that zip code always arrives overnight. Not with NetFlix movies. To make matters worse, if they receive a movie from us on Monday morning, they don't send the next movie out the same day as advertised, but they wait until Tuesday, at best. Of course, none of this happens in the trial membership or maybe the first month of subscription. Not much of a way to build good will or customer loyalty. Lately, also, the movies have at times arrived dirty, and I mean sticky dirty, and have to be cleaned in order for them to play decently.

Netflix has better foreign film selections
by estephan500 ,Jul 07 '05
Hey folks...

So I was trying to choose between Netflix and Blockbuster's mail rental services. Blockbuster's is a bit cheaper and gives free coupons... Netflix (which I was on before, for about 6 months) supposedly has a better selection, and people really get mad about Blockbuster's supposed editing of movies, etc...

So, to compare, I took seven foreign and less-than-mainstream directors and counted how many of their dvd's were offered by Netflix and Blockbuster. The results were not THAT different, but a little.

Check out the results... I put them on the following web page:

Love those Netflix evenings!
by sarval ,May 25 '04
I live in the boonies -- Netflix has been a great find. For those of us who love old films and live in a place where returning a rental by noon the next day is a real problem, Blockbuster just doesn't cut it. Netflix seems to be investing in Criterion films which means access to all those movies you were too young to see when they came out! The delivery speed has been great. I don't watch TV -- don't even have TV. Netflix is all I need when it comes to video!

Service levels have dropped from the previous year
by birdinthehand ,Mar 17 '07
Netflix is very convenient due to having no late fee, and the movies would always arrive the very next day they shipped (in the beginning). However, since they had their sale of used DVD's (to clear out overstocked inventory), their shipping speed has decreased, and movies are frequently listed in the 'short wait' category.

Blockbuster's Total Access changes everything
by calclark ,Nov 16 '06
Up until a month ago I had both Netflix and Blockbuster online movie rental service. As of October 2006 Blockbuster came out with a program that dramatically changes the competition outcome. I used to prefer Netflix. Now Blockbuster is clearly the better of the two services for me. Total access allows you to return DVDs to the store and have them registered as returned the moment they are entered into teh system at the store. The next movies in the queue are then shipped AND the store lets you use each of your returned movies as a coupon for a free in-store rental. This more than doubles the number of movies you can rent for the price. This overcomes all the shortcomings of Blockbuster for me (and they are making steady improvements in availability, recomendations, shipping order, and shipping speed). Netflix will have to respond once word of Total Access gets out to the public.

NETFLIX IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN BLOCKBUSTER.COM
by ntm138 ,May 15 '06
I thought I could do better with Blockbuster.com, but I was so WRONG! You get your DVDs twice as fast as Blockbuster.com. The staff at Netflix is fast & efficient. I was with Netflix for 3 months ans they never got my order wrong, but I was with Bockbuster.com for 1.5 months and they got my order wrong twice. With Netflix, I can be on the 3 DVD plan and because of their fast & efficient staff I am able to get 3-8 DVDs per week depending on how fast I watch them. With Blockbuster, if I were on the same plan, I only get 3 or 2 a week because their staff is slow. I would highly recommend Netflix or Blockbuster.

Netflix > Blockbuster > Walmart
by popkorn1 ,Sep 10 '04
Netflix is the best Online rental service. It beats out the competition. Very experienced, great selection, quick shipments. Very little complaints.

I've tried all three of the main online DVD renters.

Walmart has a decent selection, but not compared to Netflix. Their shipment times could use some work, too. However, they ARE prices the best, by far. Check them out if you're on a budget. www.walmart.com

Blockbuster is the newest one on the block. I've had them for 1 month, and do NOT like them. Shipment times are very slow, their envelope is not as well designed as Netflix and I think that causes them to be misplaced in the mail more frequently. In 1 month, 4-5 of my DVDs have been delayed about a week, AFTER they stated it was shipped. However, Blockbuster gives you 2 free in store rentals EACH MONTH, and that is an awesome deal.

In the end, Netflix is the best. It may be the most expensive, but you get what you pay for -- It's worth it.

Netflix to Apple users: "Suck it."
by mercilesszurg ,May 27 '06
Netflix's website is not designed to standard. It is very difficult to use in Apple's Safari. Safari works very well with virtually all websites that I use, including Citibank, Google, Amazon, etc., etc., etc.

I contacted Netflix about this, which was not easy, as they make it very difficult to submit customer support reports that do not fit their canned FAQ responses.

They told me to take it up with Apple. I have chosen to take it up with Blockbuster, instead. Blockbuster's website makes it much easier to submit a customer support report.

One in Three DVDs is Scratched
by gyromorton ,May 17 '09
I've been a Netflix member for almost exactly a year and have rented about 40 DVDs during that time.  Of those 40 DVDs, approximately 10 were scratched and unwatchable.  To add insult to injury, what normally happens is that the scratch occurs near the climax of the movie so it craps out just when you are really into it.  This is so incredibly frustrating that I'm amazed that I haven't canceled my subscrition yet.  I've called customer service to report the issue and the best they are willing to do is send you an extra DVD.  This is like getting food-poisoning from a restaurant and having them offer to give you an extra serving.
