Great in the beginning, horrible once you're a regular.
by judgemike ,Feb 03 '06
We were NetFlix customers for almost 1 year. When we first joined our DVD's would ship VERY fast. We'd watch them one night, put them in the mail the next day, Netflix would receive the following day, and we would have another video a day or two after that.

Like clockwork. You could easily set your weekend viewing schedule to Netflix's delivery clock.

We ended up canceling last week. That's right ... CANCELLED. Why you may ask?

Do a Google search for Netflix Throttle or Netflix Throttling. Essentially once you are a steady customer, they take it upon themselves to 'throttle' your queue in such a manner as to make themselves more profitable on your account.

My turn around time from December till when I cancelled? 3 weeks !!!!!

Do yourself a favor and do the web search. Go in w/ your eyes wide open. I think Netflix is a bunch of crooks and should be addressed for false advertising.

Bad risk for your credit card.
by mmarvie ,Dec 14 '08
Beware. Both my married son and I used Netflix and both of us had separate high-amount fraudulent uses of our credit cards ($900 and $1400), on the cards we use with Netflix. My card has only been used two places, and only online w/Netflix, sitting in a drawer otherwise. I've written twice about this (to Netflix president/founder Hastings, the last via certified mail) - but he refuses to answer or have someone else do so. I was only asking them to investigate their credit card security procedures; the fraud may or may not be their fault but their silence is profound and speaks volumes. My card was cancelled, a new one issued, and Netflix now wants me to supply them a new card number, but I've refused. Their service is excellent; their business manners are atrocious.

good service changed to bad service
by usenet7 ,Oct 11 '05
I'm leaving Netflix. For a few months it was great and then they started throttling service. They won't acknowledge receiving disks for days. They say they send out a disk but it arrives many days later. I'm quitting.

Good idea ruined by poor service
by jjm53568 ,Feb 07 '04
At first I thought this was wonderful, but I am going to cancel my service. Too many of the most popular movies have defective disks or long waits. They also do not have director's cuts or extended versions of movies.

Customer service is fine as long as you never have a problem (LOL). Good idea, poor execution.

Netflix to Apple users: "Suck it."
by mercilesszurg ,May 27 '06
Netflix's website is not designed to standard. It is very difficult to use in Apple's Safari. Safari works very well with virtually all websites that I use, including Citibank, Google, Amazon, etc., etc., etc.

I contacted Netflix about this, which was not easy, as they make it very difficult to submit customer support reports that do not fit their canned FAQ responses.

They told me to take it up with Apple. I have chosen to take it up with Blockbuster, instead. Blockbuster's website makes it much easier to submit a customer support report.

Would NOT recommend!
by mom247 ,Feb 21 '06
We have loved Netflix. Our online que, movies get here, we take our time and watch them, send them back, a week later we have more DVD's. We just received a damaged DVD and I sent them an email letting them know that I'm dissatisfied and I have a list of questions...so they send me a draft that has nothing to do with my questions. So I send another email and I ask for a personal response. I GET THE SAME DRAFT! I can't talk to any human being and whoever is answering emails is obviously asleep. Their customer service stinks. I'm glad Netflix sent me a damaged DVD. We ended up renting it from Blockbuster--and after this experience we're canceling Netflix tomorrow and we'll give Blockbuster's program a try.

BAD SERVICE!! If you rarely want to exchange movies they'll treat you great. ;)
by slf5u ,Feb 13 '06
Initially I was happy overall with the service. They have a solid selection and the Queue functionality is fun. But they seem too focused on acquiring customers and not enough on making customers happy once they've signed up.

They have a wide selection but you're pretty much guaranteed to have to wait for most new releases. I've been waiting for some new releases for 3 months and still haven't received them.

My bigger complaint is that they started delaying my DVD shipments by a few days rather than shipping immediately. I suspected this was deliberate at first, because I was averaging 10-12 DVDs per month, and the following article confirmed they do in fact do this with many of the customers who rent regularly: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/10/netflix.renters.ap/index.html. Not a great way to treat those customers most excited about your service. I'm going to switch and see if there are other services I can tell my friends to switch to as well.

Bad experience, not recommended !!!
by pepe_epep ,Oct 26 '04
Customer service is the worse, they don't know how to treat a customer. When ordering movies, all the new releases goes to new customers, after that your new title start going to the queue and you might received them, if you are lucky in a couple of months. I suscribe to Walmart after this nightmare and I cannot complain at all.

Scared off by shady free trial experience.
by simgirl ,Dec 25 '05
I have only been with them one day and am already disappointed. I signed up for the two week trial of two at a time. When I checked my account, it stated I had signed up for only ONE at a time. After changing this online I was shown a message that the change would take place on January 6th. Exactly when the trial period ends! Frightened off by the reviews here -- even the positive reviews contain a consistent complaint of:

No or Bad Customer Service
Shady Trial Period
Shady Billing

I don't even want the free trial now. I have heard here from too many people that they are charged before the trial is even over. I am getting out now. What a shame. It seemed like a good idea. I have good reason to suspect these reviews here are padded with positives from NetFlix as well. I call them now NetF**x

Getting more disappointing by the day; will cancel membership if DVDquality doesn't improve.
by abarry ,Apr 07 '04
Here's my shopping experience with Netflix:

Speed of Delivery: Average If I Mail it on Monday, I get another one by Friday or Saturday. I wish it was better.

Selection: Rather good. New movies are harder to find and order.

DVD Quality: Really sucks, lately. For the last two months, I have to return more than half the movies because they freeze up and are unplayable. It gets very frustrating if that happens in the middle of the flick or when something important is happening. Real bummer.

Customer service: Very Poor. I have written to them in for the DVD quality twice, only to get the same canned response. I wonder if anyone reads them at all. I have to return this Mission to Mars for the 4th time: never could get past the first 4 chapters.

Netflix promised refund that never came.
by jeanniewc ,Oct 14 '06
Netflix ripped me off and I'm mad. I bought a subscription for my elderly parents thinking it would be a good way for them to get movies since they don't get out much. They tried to set it up but felt like it was too complicated so never used it. Netflix promised us a refund multiple times, then denied it, then promised it again, told us the check was in the mail, but it never materialized. I still have their e-mails because it seemed like very poor business practice when the subscription was never redeemed in any way.

Netflix sucks!
by esakura ,Aug 10 '05
I signed up because of all the great things I read. It took 8 days for me to get my first movie. When I put the movie first in my que, it said it was available, so why 8 days? The movie arrived in a flimsy paper envelope. It had a crack across the entire top but they taped it or something. Anyways, the DVD wouldn't play on any of my DVD players. I emailed several times and received zero responses. I guess they have so many customers now, they don't care. I quit. I put the DVD in the flimsy paper return envelope they supplied. I can see why these DVDs easily get broken. For a free trial member ship, this sucks! By the time I get this back to them and my next one is sent out, my trial membership will be over.

Old jalopies get best service. Race cars need not apply.
by nomanisland ,Apr 26 '06
Netflix is discriminatory. What this means is the following:
1) Netflix charges different prices to different people.
2) Netflix deliberately treats customers differently.

$5.99 banners are posted, but may not be available for you. Evidently, this price is for new customers only. I saw the banner on hotmail, but as soon as Netflix identified me via cookies, address, or other, then the minimum price jumped up to $9.99. I could care less about a free two week trial, since it's not even worth the bother. Netflix would be better to post an honest price, then just really offer it.

"Unlimited" doesn't exist in this DVD rental reality. I think that's where Netflix ran into its current problem of "throttling" the distribution away from customers who watch the most movies. Throttling is another word for bottle neck.

Whatever one calls it, it's like a traffic light or more like a traffic cop. The trick here is that the cop is a bit biased. He stops all of the sport cars until the old jalopies drive through.

If I want an overpriced jalopy for your DVD rental, then I'd go with netflix.

Used to be Great, Now Just a Big Huge Disappointment
by gclv ,Feb 18 '06
As others have stated, when we first joined Netflix a few years back, it was the best thing since "sliced bread". We have recommended Netflix to countless friends and members of our family.

HOWEVER, lately, their shipping service has fallen off the scale. If rating their service for turnover between dvd's from 1 to 5 it would have to be rated a minus 5! At one time we were able to mail the dvd, have them receive it the following day, they mail out the next the following day, and we have the new dvd the day after they shipped.

Unfortunately this is no longer true. Doesn't really matter whether it is newly released title or not. Since we began having problems we have emailed Netflix twice. To date, we have never received a single reply.

I came to epinions today to search for a new service. We will be leaving Netflix. It was terrific while it lasted.

Poor inventory (new releases)
by ecarpzoom ,Aug 23 '05
Delivery fine. Receiving movies very poor. I have been a member twice. The first time for about six months and the second time coming up on a year. I noticed that in the beginning of your membership if you put new releases in your queue, you receive them in a reasonable amount of time. However, about the sixth month mark I end up waiting for as much as eight weeks to receive a movie. This is why I canceled the first time. I signed up a couple of months later and now the same problem. Paying almost $32 a month, for up to five dvds is outrageous for what you receive. I will be canceling my membership.
