Super slow, no tracking, unconcerned customer service, still waiting!
by dfourlas ,Jan 19 '07
I ordered photo stamps as a Christmas gift (the site promised delivery by 12/23). I'm still waiting. When I tried to track my supposedly-mailed package with the link provided, I got a message that no such package could be found. Stamps.com's customer service department has responded to my several e-mail inquiries with form responses, beginning with making me wait 15 business days (despite the 12/23 delivery offer) before even considering a replacement. Then I was asked to follow a "recommended" procedure that would place a new order and charge me again! I declined and requested a replacement. I got a response again "recommending" the new purchase, which I again refused, and then finally got a message that a replacement would be processed. After over a week from the date my replacement was requested, my latest inquiry was met with an e-mail today indicating it has not shipped yet and will take another 7-10 business days when (or, I'm afraid, IF) it finally does ship. Bottom line, I'm wondering whether my Christmas gift will even show up in time for Valentine's Day...or indeed, ever.

Obstructive cancellation policy results in unfair charges.
by jules_siegel ,Jul 22 '04
The cancellation procedure is a hairball. You have to call an 888 number. If you fail to do this before the beginning of a billing cycle you will be charged another fee -- even if you do not use the service in any way. My general opinion of them is that they have a lousy customer service policy that obstructs cancellation in order to boost their income. Not recommended.

Bait & Switch
by rubes2 ,Jan 16 '04
Stamps.com may be easy and convenient, but at a high price. I checked out Stamps.com using their "free" trial and "free" postage. I admit, I wanted something for nothing...no such thing. Their "free" month lasts 29 days (no, it was not a February in leap year), and when I canceled after 30 days I was charged for TWO MONTHS. My 1-day month from day 29-30 and then for the beginning of my next month. After lots of arguing they refunded my second month's charge as a "courtesy."

Terrible Customer Service - Ripoff
by honesty2 ,Jan 31 '07
These people are a ripoff.

They are not customer oriented whatsoever. They double charged my account and explained it off with some ridiculous nonsense within 2 days for 24.99 and again the next day for 24.99. Another person who I had recommended them to closed her account as well feeling they are of no use to any client base. I will also inform others that I had recommended (prematurely) NOT TO use their services.

Is it worth $15.99/month?
by texasskyscapes ,Aug 20 '04
I am satisfied with the Stamps.com service, but there are other stamp services that are almost to just as easy for our personal & business needs, e.g. USPS on line (credit card ease) and eBay automatic shipping printing, etc.

I guess the main asset is the phone book memorized for repeat mailings and this can be saved to disk if you are temporarily quitting your account.

However, the account "statement" is not up to CPA standards (or even doctor billing standards) as yet, i.e. none of the coupon credits and service fees appear - you don't get a debits & credits report from day one anywhere - yikes.

Most places it says contact customer service via email for account changes and cancellation, but good luck finding it, unless you saved it from the initial promotional greeting emails. Even so, the policy has now changed - you have to use their 888 phone number to make such changes; on hold time is considerable, even if calling just after opening (6am PST).

They are fair, helpful and very good service but I'm not sure I need to be paying $15.99/month for it.

Doesn't work for a Mac; doesn't work for me
by willownaeco ,Nov 11 '06
Stamps.com needs to state clearly on its homepage that its software will not work on Apple/Macs without additional (expensive) software (Virtual PC).

From http://www.stamps.com/learn-more/faq/#1

"Do I need any special hardware? No. Stamps.com is a software-based solution that lets customers use just a PC, a printer, and an Internet connection to purchase and print postage, right from the convenience of their home or office. Unlike traditional postage meters, there is no special hardware required to print postage."

From http://stamps.com/download/

"Apple Macintosh users: Our software currently does not natively support the Apple Macintosh platform. However, many of our Macintosh customers use a Windows emulator software to run the Stamps.com software. We do not offer technical support for installation on a Macintosh computer."

This sort of information is necessary on the homepage, not buried deep within the web site.

Besides not being compatible with Macs, Stamps.com is overpriced. I agree with the reviewer who asked why he's paying so much when he has to do all of the work.

Cancel account: 1.877.782.6736

Other issues: 1.888.434.0055

If you call 888 to cancel your account, you'll be told to call 877. Pressing nothing at 888 does not bring you to a real person.

HORRIBLE! They hook you and won't let go.
by debugdiva ,Jul 29 '07
DON'T DO IT! I have been trying to cancel them for over two years. They are impossible to contact. I have stayed on hold with them for hours. I have tried multiple times to cancel on line. They are impossible to cancel.

I signed up for them about 4 years ago and used them for awhile ok, but I quickly found out I could use USPS online without paying service fees. I have been trying to cancel my account ever since.

They have a link on their website to cancel and after you fill out the whole thing they reply with the message that they cannot cancel online. I have tried to call them numerous times and no one ever answers.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM. You can get the same service for free from the USPS.

Hate it! Customer service is horrible. Will do anything to keep your money.
by cydriver ,May 01 '04
I joined up for a no risk free trial and when I went to cancel at the end of the first billing period, I was told I hadn't canceled in 28 days, because if you cancel after that you will be charged. So I was charged for the first billing month and then I receive an email that I will also be charged for a second month because they counted the cancellation the day after I actually canceled and therefore was charged $15.99 for never using the service, because I had canceled the day before.

Frustrating
by mkrbdj ,Nov 01 '06
It has been mostly frustrating to deal with stamps.com. Set up went great. Getting credits on postage errors is a hassle if it happens at all. Calling Customer Care results in being on hold for at least 30 minutes.

On one of my calls after holding for 27 minutes and finally getting a live person, she had to refer me to another department. She transferred me to the same holding pattern!

More Honest Marketing Needed & Easier Cancellation Policy
by annabanana703 ,May 05 '07
I feel the advertising and packaging was misleading and that I got taken in. I felt even more ripped off when I found it nearly impossible to contact them via phone to cancel. When I finally got a hold of a customer rep she was very polite but could not explain why I had to call a second 800 number to cancel or why I could not cancel the service online even though there is a selection to do this within their software. I gave them 2 stars only because I felt that a business that did a lot of mailing and needed to have one person manage and track the info and mailings might find the software easy to use since it was fairly straight forward and kept all the tracking info pretty well organized.

Pathetic, charges you for cancelling now!
by destronica ,Nov 30 '06
Pretty much one of the worst companies i've ever dealt with. I wanted to cancel my account, they gave me the run around twice, after I finally got a hold of someone (they were from India and very hard to understand) they told me I could not cancel without paying for a $13.99 cancellation fee. I was confused, i'm canceling before the date, why should I pay for a fee? They told me it was in the ToS. I told them, if this keeps you from billing me every month for the next 20 years then fine. They finally canceled, we argued for about 10 minutes on why I should pay for this.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL!!!! THERE ARE TONS OF OTHER WEBSITES THAT ARE BETTER, TRY GOOGLING!

BTW, I never got my free scale or free postage, ive been with them for over 7 months, I sent in to get it about 5 times, they said they never got it. Most pathetic service EVER>

THE WORST
by tommeyhm ,Aug 06 '04
I highly recommend against using this service. It is generally much easier to mail order stamps, etc. The process for return receipt, registered, etc. was not intuitive. A fee is charged regardless of whether you use any postage--and they do not waive it even if you have deleted their e-mail as SPAM.

extremely poor
by indigosix ,Jul 01 '04
Be extremely careful if you are considering their "free trial" offered at their website. I found this through the usps.com site, and thought it would be easier to print postage from home than run to the post office every time I sold something on eBay. They "free postage" offer is only if you go beyond their trial period, and eben though I got three postage cards, I could only use one a month. So, my $25 in free postage, would really cost me $48 in service fees. Does this sound like a bargain?

Their "free month" is 29 days, and because I went 2 days over that period before I cancelled my account, I got hit with a monthly fee. Their reasoning was that open accounts cost them money to maintain. My reasoning is, it was 2 DAYS. Possibly save a customer and give a little?? Oh, why bother.

I have been on other sites and have read the same complaints - they refuse to give refunds and are really hard to deal with if you have a problem. I can not recommend this site to anyone, and advise all to try other online options for postage.

Very frustrating, a rip-off!
by lprice ,Dec 07 '06
Stamps.com is a terrible service. Do not sign-up for an account! If you like the ease of online stamps, go to usps.com ( United States Postal.)

Stamps.com charged me monthly, $15.99 whether I used their service or not. They charged me $15.99 simply to cancel my account. Their customer service is very poor. I could not reach an English speaking representative.

WARNING: Must read before canceling Stamps.com account.
by talkair ,Jan 31 '04
If you plan to cancel and have a full address book export the data first because these sneaky _____ won't let you back in the program.
I did find where they store YOUR DATA, look in *.bin files under install directory.
No where did I read in the user agreement that they have control over my personal data input !

Miss printed postage: Ok they helped me out ONE time for around $5.00 my network printer crashed but their software doesn't care or even look for problems like this so you could lose a lot of money in miss / no prints. I ended up canceling with them after a 20 label NO PRINT just the other day. There is no way to get refunded for non existent postage.
