Consumer Warning About Stamps.com
by jdaigle ,Jan 14 '08
I used the free service Stamps.com offered for about a year. Then, without warning, I started to receive monthly service fees of about $32. I don't know how my account changed to a monthly service fee account that I never intended to have. Now it has cost me about $90 in monthly service fees, numerous e-mails, three phone calls and about about 1.5 hours of my time trying to cancel the account. I thought AOL back in the 90s was bad about this, but Stamps.com seems to have perfected the art of making it impossible to cancel an account. It's too bad they are practicing these types of unfriendly customer service techniques. It's a good idea. I'd probably still be a customer if they were more ethical and consumer friendly!

The little person that got taken advantage of.
by thesanderclan ,Oct 25 '04
Stamps.com is a rip off unless you ship in high volume. I only ship 5 - 10 packages a week. My customer service experience was awful. Got the run around everywhere I went over a measly $15.99. Term & Conditions are contradictory. Watch out! Safest bet is to just use USPS web site or UPS site, unless you ship high volume and live 25 miles from the post office. The trial period is NOT FREE - you will be charged even if you cancel a day late. Stamps.com doesnt care that life happens and you couldnt cancel on day 29 - I had to cancel on day 30 and was charged 15.99 for my NO-Risk Trial Period, and I did not receive any promotional items. What a total dissapointment! I absolutelty do not recommend, not even to a business.

absolute rip-off... beware "free trial"... it's not free at all
by j_titus ,Feb 21 '09
Free trial is a total rip-off. We wanted to try their stamps with custom graphics on them... that was months ago. Unfortunately, we didn't check closely on our bills and realize that they were charging our business account $15.99 a month... for nothing. Yes, we never used the service again and we've been charged $15.99/mo for the privilege of creating an account and nothing more.

I was deceived by Stamps.com
by kali0109 ,Aug 03 '09
I am writing to warn everyone about Stamps.com. I ordered a sheet of personalized stamps through the service for $18.99. I was reluctant to pay for this in the first place, as a book of regular 42 cent stamps would cost less than $10.00 Unknowingly, I inadvertently signed up for a Stamps.com account that charged my credit card each month, and found out when I review my credit card statements. I feel very deceived by Stamps.com, as I thought after reading everything that I was supposed to sign up for an account in order to buy the sheet of personalized stamps. When I called Stamps.com concerning my account and asking for a refund, I was not granted a refund, and found out that I will be charged for next month as well. This poor customer service is another reason I would warn anyone not to use the Stamps.com service.

Password Reset Options are Ridiculous
by balletengineer ,Apr 14 '09
As a business admin, I am not very impressed with the account options and customer service. Resetting the password is not an easy task if another senior manager has set the security questions. If you have no access to this information, you cannot change the password. However if you do finally track down the security answers and finally have access to YOUR OWN ACCOUNT, you cannot change the security questions. Your only option is to cancel the account and open a new one to reset your security questions.
Ridiculous!

Nearly IMPOSSI BLE to deal with. AVOID Stamps.com
by riviera65 ,Feb 03 '05
Nearly Impossible to stop Stamps.com from taking their $15.99 fees out of your bank account.
You cannot cancel online - that "function" has been unavailable for the 2 months I tried to cancel my account. Customer Support at 1-888-434-0055 will put you on IGNORE - I gave up after several attempts that went on for 30 min. or more.
You can e-mail them, but they will not cancel your account - even after you complain of the nonexistant phone "service"
I finally found many other Ripoff Reports on Stamps.com for this same problem and found a magic phone number - 310-482-5800 and I finally connected to someone that Cancelled my Account!
The service is too expensive for what you get. The scale they send is a cheap $5 Chinese scale, They want you to order their supplies, etc - Just use the US Post Office online postage services for your packages and you can also order postage online and schedule a free pick-up by your mail carrier the next day. All for Free! Much better than Stamps.coms recurring monthly fees -

AVOID STAMPS.COM!!!
by dduck353 ,Oct 24 '06
They jacked up the price from $4.99 to $15.99 without a single notification to their customers. No mail, no email, no messages on the Stamps.com Pro software.
When I called them, they said I should have known by reading my credit card statement. And that when I signed up, the agreement I agreed to allow them to change pricing without any notices.
I would think it is at least common decency to inform your customers when they increase the service fee by 300%.
And their attitude on the phone is just not acceptable.
For a residential customer, you can get everything for free from www.usps.com. Avoid Stamps.com! That's my recommendation.

Easy to subscribe, Hard to get to someone
by saturnpc ,Apr 08 '06
Having been a client of Stamps.com we closed our family in store of networking and industrial products and therefore needed to cancel our monthly subscription.
I called their Customer Service number as instructed at their website and was left with busy signal for 2 hours. I located their direct number thru a complaints site 310-482-5800 and spoke with a receptionist.
I explained my problem to her and asked to be connected to the Customer service department. I was placed in queue in which I had formerly waited 15 minutes.
This was my second time with service with them and never had I to call to cancel my subscription.

Biggest crooks on the 'net.
by rei2010 ,Feb 17 '07
Service was terrible. The "free" trial wasn't free at all--outright fraud on this one. They charge you a month *AFTER* you cancel, so you pay for the "free" trial. Promised products were NOT delivered and no refund made. I had to work the issues through the credit card company. The customer service representatives were rude. And to top it off, the cancellation instructions are completely wrong, and give you bogus phone numbers. You can NOT cancel on-line or by e-mail. It took me more than 12 attempts, 5 hours on the phone, over 2 months just to find someone to cancel when I realized what a cheat and fraud they were.
If you are suckered into signing up with these folks, make sure you use American Express. At least they will make sure you get some of the money back that stamps.com will steal from you.

Horrible Experience
by greybase ,Mar 24 '08
Bad experience, beware! Just another lousy Internet site trying to grab your credit card. First the bait & switch, they offer $80 value in Promotions: $25 postage, Free Digital Scale, blah blah. Then I get an e-mail that said $5 in postage??
Then the 4-week "No Risk" Trial. You sign UP online, but can you cancel online? No Way!! You must call a crap "Customer Support" phone number. After being on hold for awhile, you get the usual Flip (filipino), or Wog (east Indian) halfway around the world, on a bad phone line, who can hardly speak English. You know the drill!
This person then engages you in a silly argument, won't accept your cancellation, tries to make counter offers, and won't listen to a word you say. All over the bad phone line. At this point, best course of action is just YELL INTO THE PHONE "CANCEL MY ACCOUNT" and HANG UP.
Then watch your CC account like a hawk the next 3 months for any suspicious charges. Solution: do your research first, there are other ways of getting a cheap digital scale and printing postage on your PC - besides Stamps.com

Terrible Service - Do Not Use - Better Alternatives
by topspin67 ,Feb 05 '07
You learn the true colors of a service when you go to cancel. Just try it for yourself. They tell you to call one number and then after collecting account information tell you to hang up and call another number! Call that number, wait on hold, and then get hung up on. Call back and then because we are 2 days into the new billing cycle (which is a charge for the previous month mind you) they say they will charge again next month! That's another charge almost a month after canceling and for no service!
I would not recommend a service like this. We would have probably come back to use in the future, but instead they treat you not like a valuable customer, but an unfaithful lover! By the way, we were customers paying every month for 18+ months so it's not like we just started with them.

not a good value
by ejk55 ,Nov 18 '08
Be very careful when doing business with stamps.com on a trail basis.
The accounts can only be closed by phone, not by e-mail
or on their web site.

Stamps.com BUYER BEWARE
by chris114 ,Dec 27 '08
USPS Click and Ship is cheaper and it actually works. A link was provided to Stamps.com on the USPS website during a service outage. I followed this link, downloaded their software, funded a "free trial" account with $50.00 on a credit card. Tried to print a $31.05 Express Mail International Label and the software failed to send it to my printer. Called Stamps.com customer service and was told I must mail a form "WITH THE UNUSED POSTAGE LABEL" to request a refund. Since they only issue refunds to Active Accounts, I cannot cancel the account during the "free trial" and will be forced to pay their monthly service fee until they choose to issue the refund. At $16.00/mo. this could easily cost more than the label they failed to provide. BEWARE OF STAMPS.COM BILLING PRACTICES.

"Free" offer not free
by kaiyanzhao ,Jul 08 '06
Deceptive marketing. I signed up for a "free" offer and they billed my credit card for $61.64. I cancelled immediately, but they claimed that they could not stop the processing and charged me shipping and handling.
