Pros: Free, OK service, fast uploads, FTP, OK add ons. Cons: Very confusing for beginners, takes time to learn features. Awful help.
As a long time member and a founder of two separate web sites on Geocities, I have had few problems. As I started way back in summer 2000 I found it very difficult getting used to the system that Geocities uses, through registering, I was never told my...

Pros: Simple interface, flexible editing, fairly good free server. Cons: Too much advertising, FTP problems, has not changed for the better.
About a year after I had joined Geocities I was rather perturbed to notice that it had been bought out by Yahoo! and felt a little worried by what it would mean for the service. It turns out I had every right to be worried.
Though the service...

Pros: Runs off battle-tested servers; lots of extras; more space than beginning webmaster will need Cons: Yahoo! shifting to paid service; free service slowly being compromised
UPDATE: With Yahoo having removed the FTP access from the free accounts, I find most of Geocities' virtue gone. If you don't plan to run a major site out of Geocities, go ahead.
I started out at Geocities three years ago. Back...

Pros: Probably the over-all best web-site hosting service. Cons: Buggy; sometimes slow; you will never get a famous site out of geocities.
Geocities is a very good web-hosting service, but it's not a great one. It's the first place I went to for web-hosting, and I was lucky to have found the perfect hosting service for beginners.
For free, Geocities gives you 15 MB of storage...

Pros: Simple Web Design - good for a beginner Cons: Yahoo! Page Launcher slow to load
As a member of Yahoo!, I found it quite simple to put out my first homepage. It was also a lot of fun.
The page wizards make building your page quite simple. Just pick out your background, add a picture of yourself, and add the text. To snazz...

Pros: Easy. Free. Lots of Space. Small Advertisement. Cons: Bad File Importing. Long Domain Name.
If you are looking for an easy site builder than this is the one for you. It gives you the ease of not paying anything and the ease of doing it quick and easy. I would use this site builder if you are just a person who would like to make a small site....

Pros: Lots of free space, easy for beginner (You don't have to know HTML or any programming), FTP access for those more experienced (BIG PLUS!) Cons: Banner Ads on Every Page!!!
That would be my only complaint about Geocities - THE BANNERS! I don't understand why every page must have a banner ad on it. When you create layouts that involve frames, banners pop up in EVERY frame (occasionally this is avoidable). This can really...

Pros: Fast, easy to use Cons: No search or threads
Note: This review was originally posted under the Yahoo! Communities category. When Epinions did some reorganizing, it landed here. I have contacted the Category Manager, and it should be moved eventually.
I have been a member of...

Pros: Easy to use so good for a beginner. Cons: Merged with Borghoo, umm, sorry, Yahoo.
I remember the old Geocities. Before Yahoo, before the boycott, before the mass exodus to find other hosting. In a way I guess Yahoo did me a favor because I found much better free hosting than I ever had with Geocities before or after the merger.
...

Pros: The Truth Hurts--Ouch! Cons: Honesty is the Best Policy!
Okay BreathMynt, so you (and many others) didn't like my spoof and commentaries of epinions.com. I guess you either can't see the humor behind my sarcasm, or else my type of writing, straight from the gut vs. the brain, just doesn't appeal to you. I...

Pros: Lots of space to work with, good tutorials Cons: Can run slow at times
I began my stint with Geocities way back before they made their merge with Yahoo. Back then, it was a fairly simple service, albeit a tad slow. They offer tutorials for the HTML challenged(as I was at the time) and plenty of helpful hints and links to...

Pros: free web space Cons: slow, server is down a lot, files get corrupted, becareful of new features because you might implement them today and they are gone tomorrow with out warning
In the beginning there was Geocities.
I have had a web site on Geocities since 1996. Let me invite you to come and visit my homepage. After visiting my homepage I think most people will give my review a little more creditability...

Pros: it's free Cons: lack of features, taken over by Yahoo
I've had my homepage with Geocities since 1996. It was very exciting joining the Geocities community and setting up my free homepage there.
In the beginning, when Geocities wasn't owned by Yahoo - they had some great features. Geocities...

Pros: It's free, has a lot of visibility, and offers help for new webmasters. Cons: Banner ads, pop-up advertisement windows, and all the things you can't do with your GeoCities site.
To put it bluntly, I was a member right up to the point when, as Yahoo! proclaimed its purchase of GeoCities, it also decreed that all existing GeoCities web sites (and the materials contained therein) would become Yahoo! property. As soon as my...

Pros: 15 MB of free space, web building program available, small ad banners Cons: the web building program crashes, still need to put up with ad banners
Last summer, I finally opted to have my own website, although I had zero knowledge on how to use HTML programming code. I then found Geocities.com and signed up for a free web account (FREE, you can't beat that price). Geocities.com was a little...
