I'm amazed to see these good reviews of stamps.com. My experience has been so bad that I've cancelled my account.
Let me summarize the main problems I experienced with them:
1. Could not connect to their service at all, probably about 1/3 of the time. I wrote them about this issue. They responded that it must be a problem on my end. However, I had no trouble connecting to other services and websites.
2. Their product is inflexibly engineered. You cannot do many things, such as print out just postage. It forces you to print out address and return address. If you want to print out postage onto window envelopes and such, you must purchase additional products from them. Customer service is unconcerned with this problem.
3. Suddenly one day, I could not print the postage out on my printer. I got an error message that my printer type was unacceptable for printing "IBIP postage" (whatever that means). I emailed customer service, and they sent a lengthy apology and work-around for this new problem.
4. They take moneys out of your account, even when something does not print out properly. They will credit you that money, but it's a hassle to have to file a claim.
5. In all my dealings with customer service, there never appeared to be a real human on the other end. They seem to have a computer program that scans your inquiry for key-words, and spits out a canned response based on that. The response is not always accurate or complete, and sometimes you have to try again.
In a nutshell: online postage is a great idea, but other services do it better.
