This is part of my Mother’s Day W/O. This is a chance for all of you to show how much you appreciate your mothers, wives, grandmothers or "mother-figures" by participating in this write-off. You can write bout anything; the sky’s the limit. Mothers, you can also participate by writing about a particular gift you may have received from your child(ren) or anyone special in your life. It’s just a good way to show how much we appreciate all mothers out there and I hope you decide to participate.
I originally wrote this review in 2000, and I’ve decided to revamp it for this write-off. I also came to find out that this website and category are on the Epinions retired list, but I still wanted to discuss my past experiences with this particular website. Hope you enjoy.
I love my mom; I think she’s one of the most amazing women I know. We have a really great relationship and we can practically talk about anything. Every year, I try to get her something special for Mother’s Day as a small thank you for all she’s done for me. For Mother’s Day 2000, I was in dire need for Mother's Day gifts because I was the bad daughter who waited until the last minute. So, I decided to go with the old standby and get her some flowers. My mom loves flowers, plants, and any type of greenery to make the home look festive. Not only that, but she could have her own Greenhouse of flowers and plants. She’s always had a green thumb when it comes to flowers and plants and I knew that I could not go wrong in this area.
So, I knew what I wanted to get her, but now was the hard part of deciding where I would get them. I surfed the web, and found PC Flowers & Gifts, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. Their selection of flowers was quite abundant and their prices are fairly reasonable. At the time, I had an account with Fingerhut, and they recommended this company as a good one to order flowers.
I ordered three sets of flowers: two for my mom and one for Candice’s mom. I placed the orders on the Thursday before Mother’s Day and they guaranteed a Saturday delivery (for an additional charge via FedEx Saturday delivery, but hey, this was last minute). On Saturday night, when we got home, the flowers were packaged in two boxes. The boxes were intact, no holes, leaks or anything. The flowers came in vases and the vases weren't broken. The roses themselves were fresh, as if they were picked from the garden and delivered to our home in seconds. They also came with truffles that were packaged in a nice little bottle (a nice added touch). Each delivery came with care instructions for the flowers as well as a small packet of plant food. In addition to the care instructions was a personalized card from me and I thought that made it even more special.
About a week after they were delivered, the flowers were still blooming and none of the roses were wilting. They also had a really nice fragrance that made the whole house smell wonderful. The only setback was the flowers still had thorns and a couple of times the little suckers stuck me.
Mother’s Day 2001 was a little sad for me. At this time, I was in Alaska, and I wasn’t going to be home for Mother’s Day. This was also the first time I was ever away from my mom during this holiday and I was just a mess. Since I knew I would not be home, I decided to send her some more flowers. Furthermore, since I had such a success with PC Flowers & Gifts the previous year, I immediately went back to their website to order more flowers. This time, I decided to up the ante and in addition to roses, I ordered a plant as well.
I called my mom for Mother’s Day and we were having a nice conversation. In the middle of the conversation, she said there was someone at the door. When she opened the door, FedEx arrived with the delivery. I guess you could say that God was looking out for both of us at that particular moment in time. Mom was really surprised and she told me it made her day. Each time I talk to her about it, she says it always makes her smile.
Ordering
The ordering process was fairly simple. Once I made my selections, I placed them in my cart and proceeded to check out. The order form was also self-explanatory. You fill out all the necessary information (i.e., sender’s name, address, phone number, credit card info, as well as the "Ship to" info.) After you’ve completed the order, you’re taken to the next screen, which shows the information you provided. If all the information is correct, you click the order button and the next screen indicates the order has been placed along with an order number for the item. If you provided an e-mail address, you also get an e-mail confirmation with your order number and a contact number if you have any questions.
The only setback I found was that if you ordered two of the same items, for instance, you have to fill out two separate forms. At the time, I thought it was a hassle, but looking back on it, I think I realize why the system was set up this way. I believe it was added insurance that there would not be any mix-ups in order deliveries.
Sadly, in both Epinions land and in web land, the PC Flowers & Gifts website are no longer available. But on a positive note the flowers and plants that I have ordered through PC Flowers are still at my mom’s house and each time I go to visit her, I can see them on the front porch. As I’ve stated, she loves plants and takes care of them as if they were her own children.
Overall Thoughts
Personally, I found the site easy to navigate. I knew what I wanted and it was just a matter of making the right selection. Everything was just at the click of a button and if there were any concerns with my order, I could contact their customer service line. I never had a problem with any of the orders I placed, so there was never a need for me to speak with a representative.
The times that I ordered flowers through PC Flowers & Gifts were all successful moments for me. My mom was happy with them (as well as ArtMom) and I was glad I used their services. This year, I’m still not sure what I’m going to get mom for Mother’s Day, but she will know that it’s something special to show how much she means to me.
