I know whenever I go to the pump and fill my car I just about have heart failure, when will these prices ever go down. In my part of the country the going rate is around 1.53 for regular(87 octane)unleaded. I was trying to find somehow to save some money, aside from not driving. I had sent for a gas card from "PRICELINE.COM" a while back but kind of forgot about it, and then I got in in the mail a few days ago.
In case you are not familiar, "PRICELINE.COM" is s service that lets you name your own price, it ranges from groceries to gasoline and hotel reservations and airline tickets. For groceries and gasoline you have to go to their site and sign up for a card and if area stores around you participate then you will receive a card in the mail. I believe for the hotel and airline tickets, you just need to go to the site, I am not sure I haven't use that service yet, I am only familiar with the gas so far.
After I received my card and when to the site and registered my card, then you select a number of gas stations that are near you, it is best to select as many as you can, that way you will have a better chance of getting the price you want. After you select your gas stations you then select the price you are willing to spend, you then wait but only for a few minutes and then if anyone accepts your offer, their names will be highlighted. After you have found one that has accepted you offer, you then can order your gas for the amount you offered. Your price is good for ninety days and the most you can order or have in your account is 50 gallons. After you select how many gallons you wish you then must enter a credit card for it to be billed to, they go ahead and charge your credit card for the amount you purchased, you then will be able to print out your sheet for your gas station and they give you a code to use.
Your gas card resembles a credit card, when you go to the station on your print out list, you then swipe your gas card, it will then ask for your ID number, you enter the code you were given, which is printed on your sheet, you then pump your gallons of gas at the price you offered. There is no need to enter the store, unless it isn't self serve, there are instructions for that at the site.
You just need to make sure you are going to the correct station on your list, if by chance you go to the wrong gas station then the price you offered won't apply there and they will bill you the difference on your credit card.
After placing your bid and then you receive an acceptance you have to wait for email verification before you can use your card at the station, the normal time is 8 hours, but this was my first time so it may be shorted once you are an active member. I placed my order in the evening and it wa ready to be used the following morning, I had no trouble at all at the pump. Just thought I would pass this along, it may help some of you fight those gas prices a little.
Oh by the way, the gas price I offered was 1.36 and it was accepted at one station which normally charged 1.53, so I felt like I save a little. You first 90 days are free, and then they charge a 3.00 service fee after that.
Thanks for reading:)
