I was intrigued by the invitation to try Stamps.com while I was browsing the internet. The very thought of avoiding long lines at the post office was enticing enough, and coupled with the fact that I was starting my writing career finally and needed a quick way to get out query letters and manuscripts lured me to request a CD-rom of the software. The same software is available for download from the internet, but not being a super-techie, I opted for the disc. I had seen similar software offered on the internet, such as E-stamp, but this particular program seemed more user-friendly.
Stamps.com works like this: For a fee ranging from $1.99 a month to $19.99 a month (a 10% service charge), with an option of a flat rate $15.99 a month for high-volume users, you can print out from your computer all the postage you want. You load in your envelopes or labels as directed and the postage gets printed and is ready automatically.
Upon receipt of the disc, I loaded the software and was pleasantly surprised at the ease of use. The directions were clear and concise and the start-up costs were minimal and flexible. I also liked the offer of an additional $60 of free postage added to my account as a new user. In addition, I received a digital scale, valued at $149.00, which came in very handy when weighing some of my bulkier items.
The customer service at Stamps.com is, in my opinion, the jewel in its young crown. I always had my questions answered quickly and efficiently, and in a way that was not confusing. Never did I feel let down by the service provided by this company. They have a section on their website for FAQ, but if a question is not readily answered in that section, there are two other options: email or what they call "live answer." The emails I sent were always answered quickly (usually within hours) and the live answer was similar to an instant message on AOL. All the customer service representatives were accommodating and informative.
In the end, I had to cancel my account due to unexpected lower postal volume than anticipated. However, even the process of requesting, and receiving, a refund on my prepaid postage of $25.00 was quick and effortless.
The professionalism and strong customer service support extended me by Stamps.com would lend me to recommend this service to anybody who tires of endless lines at the post office and has better things to do with their time. It is a great business tool.
