I've been selling on eBay and Yahoo for almost a year now (I buy, too, just not as much) and I've tried several ways to make my life as an auctioneer easier. I started out just listing directly. This was effective but time-consuming. Then I discovered Auction Rover (which has since become GoTo Auctions) and discovered the joys of pre-made templates, automated congratulations email, post-sale tracking, printable invoices, integrated image-hosting, auction scheduling, and an auction management page which let me track all my hits and bids in one place. Joy, joy, joy! BUT.... I still had to do it all online, and with a 56k modem it meant I was online way too long and still spending too much time creating the auctions.
Then one day I was admiring a very nicely done ad and noticed a link at the bottom for Auctionwatch. I clicked on it and I was hooked! Not only do they have everything I had loved about the other site, but they have so much more. The templates are nicer, your photos are automatically resized so they load quicker and have a clickable link to the full-sized photo, and they have a DOWNLOADABLE AUCTION CREATOR! Now I can make all my pretty auctions in less than half the time offline, and download them in a matter of minutes. I don't have to fill in all the standard info - that's done for me. I can even have certain text (i.e No delivery to PO Boxes) inserted in every ad to save myself even more time. Of course, I can still schedule my auctions for any day or time I wish, and I can still track all my hits and bids on one page. The high bidder gets an automatic congratulations email with a link to Auctionwatch where they fill in address, shipping preference, etc. and all the information is imported to a printable invoice and shipping label. Then I can track every aspect of the post sale, and easily send an email when the item is shipped. I can even send feedback. Wow! But wait, there's more!
Auctionwatch has resources galore. There are great articles designed to help novice and expert alike. You can have an item appraised, or just look through an extensive photo database to see if that dusty vase is actually a pricey collectible. There are also daily news updates concerning the many auction sites on the web, and a fee comparison chart for a large number of auction sites, as well as site reviews. And of course they have a multi-site search for when I have the urge to shop, or if I just want to see what everybody else is asking for that Shirley Temple pitcher.
Did I mention this is all free? (Except for the appraisal service. There is a fee for that.)
I really don't know how I managed before I started using Auctionwatch. This site is so useful in so many ways that I have really grown to depend on it. It is also very easy to use, and if you have been thinking about emptying out that basement or garage, I highly recommend this site. You'll have professional-looking auctions online in no time, even if you are still new to the internet.
