I am constantly amazed out how ignorant people can be. And after reading some of the reviews on Priceline, I am even more amazed. People complain because Priceline does exactly what they say they are going to do, which is offer a discount service at a discounted fee. If you want first class service, suck it up and pay the price. American consumers have made a conscious choice that we care much more about price than we do about quality. Keep in mind that you always get what you pay for.
With that said, I will relay my recent experience with Priceline. My fiance and I decided to take a weekend trip to San Diego, and decided to try booking a hotel room through Priceline. We reviewed the rules, and decided we could live with whatever results we got. We decided on Friday morning to leave that afternoon. Because Priceline can only book a room 24 hours in advance, we were unable to get a room for Friday night, but we were successful in our bid for a room for Saturday night.
I have to admit that I was skeptical about the quality of the room we would receive, given that we submitted a bid for $50, after having been told by travel agents the best price we would be able to get was $150+. We were confirmed within an hour for a room at the Holiday Inn on the Bay in downtown San Diego. We decided to go to the hotel, and see if they could match the rate Priceline gave us for Friday night. They said they could not, and the best price they could give us, even though they had vacant rooms, was $179 per night. Again, our price through Priceline for Saturday night was $50. So we stayed in a dumpy motel down the street for $56, knowing that we would enjoy a much better Saturday night. When we did get to check in on Saturday, our room was a beautiful room on the third floor overlooking San Diego bay.
The hotel staff was very courteous, even though we were discount customers. I was totally pleased with my experience at Priceline, and will most surely use them again.
