A lot of space, but not a lot of access.

Free disk space was the first hard drive storage utility I learned about. I had a real need for it. I wanted to be able to use my school's T1 computers to download music files and then send them to my computer. A zip disk of CD burner would have been ideal, but neither were present. Then I remembered hearing about online hard drives so I looked it up in google and found this site. I basically downloaded the songs and then put them onto my online hard drive. I did encounter several problems with the site while doing this but it was eventually all ironed out. This way when I downloaded them it would not have to be over AOL's historically slow system. It was perfect and now I get to download music and then just mass download while I sleep.
The 300mb of space is extremely generous and it allows me to personally store a ton of mp3s, about 70 actually. That is a lot of storage. Now this is not to say that a true fixed hard drive is going to become obsolete. These online disks do not even come close to a fixed hard drive, but they can serve their purposes especially if you and a friend share your online drive then it is a great intermediate for your files.
The only true disappointment in the program is the fact that there is currently no drag and drop access. In other words you cannot access the hard drive through your my computer screen. You must actually log onto the website to access the site. This is the one drawback now. From what I have heard they are currently in beta testing. If the new features succeed freediskspace will probably surpass x-drive in functionality and overall usefulness.
