I was drawn to Mercata because of the $100 incentive for new customers. Then I found out more about how the Group Powerbuying process worked -- and I LOVE IT! I highly recommend Mercata for the following reasons:
1) Great prices -- The site has a decent selection of goods at really good prices.
2) Powerbuys -- The prices on these select items are REALLY GOOD. Best of all, you can put in a bid price that you are comfortable with and if enough people get in on the purchase where your price is met, you get the item. You are notified by email whether you got the item that you made the offer on. There's no need to go back & forth to the site to see what the current bid amount is.
3) Fair Practices -- If the purchase price on a powerbuy is less than what you bid, you are charged the lower amount.
4) No Sales Tax -- Fortunately, for the time being, this site does not charge sales tax.
5) Promotions -- They occasionally have promotions that make it even more attractive to buy here (such as the Mercata Dollars, free shipping, refer a friend, etc.)
6) Additional Rebate -- If you go to Mercata through another rebate site (such as www.ebates.com), you will receive an additional rebate on your purchase price (if you are registered at the rebate site). I think the current rebate amount is 5% of the purchase price.
7) Manufacturer Rebate -- They will tell you on the site if an item has a rebate available on it. For example, I purchased a telephone that had an additional $20 manufacturer rebate available.
8) Reliable Company -- To date, I've purchased about 10 items from Mercata and they have all been delivered to my home in a quick, manner.
9) Tracking Shipping -- They offer tracking of your shipment right on their website (look under your account). This is convenient when you are anxiously awaiting a delivery and wondering when it will arrive.
10) Good Website Design -- The company's website is designed so that it is really easy to navigate around and find the item that you are looking for.
