HotJobs.com is a big job site that gives the job seeker a lot of freebies in terms of sorting through its huge database of available jobs. At least, that's what the site claims. Unfortunately, it was not the experience of one of my friends whom I was helping find a job three months ago. She gave up on this site. She was lucky with another site. She has since been working after leaving a family member's company in bad terms.
To be honest, I must admit that I was impressed with the site's map. Setting up or posting a resume is a breeze. I think that the most difficult part is whether to you will find a decent job or any job at all in the areas you are searching. My friend did not want to move to bigger cities on the coast of California. She wanted to find an entry-level accounting job in and around the San Joaquin Valley of CA. She had sent me a copy of her resume which I copied and pasted into the template readily available on HotJobs.com. When somebody is in a period of crisis, there is so long that person wants to wait. She was waiting for my answer. And I was waiting for a good answer for her. 1 week, 2 weeks, three weeks, nada, zip, nil, zero. It was very frustrating for her and me. All the while, I kept checking some other sites which responded to her resume.
On HotJobs, you can search by keyword, location, company, and/or job type. On a few occasions, I fed in the names of some Central Valley cities. A lot of the searches came back empty. I think the only good thing about HotJobs is that you don't have to spend countless precious minutes filling out long registration forms. You don't have to register to take advantage of the site's services. To me, that's the best part of the whole enchilada. That's the part of the service that I used to post the resume.
If you want, you can always fill out the profile form. You can attach your resume. Then, just go get busy posting somewhere else.
If you are looking for a job, one that is possibly in high demand such as IT engineer or anything in this field, you may have a better chance. By the way, an IT engineer won't even have to go through the pain of posting. A job recruiter will have already checked him or her out. To tell you the truth, I sometimes wonder whether a lot people find jobs easily this way. My friend did manage to get a job after posting her resume. All throughout the process, she had a friend of hers working for the company who was giving her some feedback. It's probably the whole system. It's who you know in the end.
Don't waste your time posting on one site, look forward to posting on many others. That's the lesson I got out of this experience.
