If Only the Trip Would Be This Painless

It all began on a fair day in September, when my darling <gag> mother-in-law announced that she found airline tickets for us so we could travel to my sister-in-law's house for a family Christmas. My sister-in-law lives on the other side of the planet, making a visit inconvenient no matter when and how we go. So, when my MIL makes her big announcement, that she found tickets at a "remarkable" price (yeah, high enough to cripple our bank account) *and* that she would be able to get five tickets and fly with us, I high-tailed my butt into the computer chair and began searching the web for alternate flights.
This past summer, my daughter went to visit her uncle, and the tickets were sent to us through Expedia (we did not purchase the tickets). Everything seemed to work smoothly enough with that transaction, so I decided to try it for myself.
I plugged in the dates I wanted to travel, and my destination points, and lo and behold, Expedia gave me many options. Sure enough, there were the outrageously priced tickets my lovely <cough> mother-in-law wanted us to purchase; she'd forgotten to mention the rotten travel times, too. I continued searching, and Expedia politely pointed out that if I was willing to make a teeny transfer, my family could fly out of an airport much closer to home and save us several hundred dollars, six hours of travel time, and probably my hair (otherwise I would been yanking it out, cooped up in a plane with my MIL). I double checked other sites, but Expedia gave us the best deal and most options. (No way did I want to haggle over tickets for this trip.) Expedia also offered to help me arrange car rental (I get a discount through work so I turned it down) and hotel rooms (which we also didn't need).
The tickets arrived within ten days of the order. My husband called his mom and told her that we found a better deal, and sorry, we wouldn't be traveling with her (ahhhh). Once the tickets arrived and the sticker shock on the credit card bill wore off (it's still expensive to fly a family across the country at Christmas, no matter what kind of deal you get), I forgot about the tickets, until . . .
One morning I arrived at work and found an email from Expedia to call. There had been changes in our flight plans. I called immediately (a 1-800 number so no charge to me), and a very nice gentleman explained the changes in our tickets and told me that I should feel free to call any time to confirm flight plans. A few weeks ago, I received a second email, one that was more general, encouraging me to check the flight schedules since a number of flights had been cancelled. If there was a problem, I was to call Expedia to handle it, but luckily my flight was not affected.
I was most impressed at how Expedia has kept us informed on our flight. I'll probably call again this week to confirm everything.
We're planning a vacation to parts unknown this summer. Will I use them again if we decide to fly? Absolutely.
