Forget the fact that they started charging (no big deal). This site has gotten a million times worse in the last year. What's wrong? Poor customer service (can I get an email response over here?). Crazy bugs that screw up your photos. And a whole host of other problems, such as they claim they will give you "free shipping credits" if you sign up friends, but this is a myth -- I did exactly what was required, and never got any credits. The choices of photo-products is still impressive, but this site has taken a major nose dive in quality and reliability in the last year. My old review is below:
What more can I say about Club Photo? It's the best. It is SO easy to use, and the advertisements are minimal for free services. The "pick your photos" service is wonderful -- it costs $1 per roll they develop, which includes everything (all the downloads you want, and they send you an index print). You can also easily make any roll they develop into one of your albums.
The best new feature at Club Photo is the Drag and Drop, which allows you easily upload a whole album. It is much easier to use than the Living Album software, although with the software you can do all kinds of cool things like add wavs, etc.
Ordering reprints has gotten much better recently. I think they do a great job. You can't turn a 380 X 640 photo into a high quality 5 X 8 reprint, but you can't do that anywhere. They do the best job that is technologically given the resolution of each photo reprinted. Also, they recently improved the scanning technology on "Pick you Photos."
The customer service is also excellent. When I email them, I get a response in a few hours, never more than 24 hours. But the best part is that they actually read your emails and give you accurate responses. Nothing annoys me more than companies that take 1 second to identify your problem, and send off a standard FAQ email. At Club Photo, they definitely don't do that.
Also, they have a MILLION different things to put your photos on, including all sorts of food products (chocolate lollipops, rice krispy treats). I actually ordered the cake topping for a party, and it was REALLY cool (and cheap). You can put any photo right on top of a cake for around $10. It's a great deal.
FYI: Don't worry about the fact that you aren't a "permanent member." They promise never to delete any albums unless they are completely untouched (by you or a visitor) for 90 days, and only after repeated email warnings to you. However, they haven't even been doing that yet. All albums are permanent, even if nobody ever sees them. (This is no longer true).
I also love the private versus public album feature. Very cool and helpful.
