I signed up for Greenfield Online over a year ago with the hopes that I would at least once get picked even for the $5 prize they award to survey participants. I have always enjoyed filling out surveys, for some odd reason, so I figured it would be fun as well.
I have filled out many surveys, ranging from automobile purchasing to internet shopping. I have taken surveys on movies and new websites. Every survey I have filled out has always had a grand prize, second prize, all the way down to about 50-100 fourth prizes of $5 or $10, which sounds like pretty good odds of winning to me. Nope, not once, never, have I won anything. Maybe it is just my luck.
I only take surveys that are e-mailed to me and they only e-mail me surveys that fit my demographics and profile I believe. I do not regularly check the website to take surveys on my own time. Maybe if I ever win some money from one of the other surveys I'll start doing that. I get a survey usually once a month, sometimes more often and a few times I have gotten them twice a week. I could be filling out more I realize, but I am not willing to spend a lot of time doing so if I am not going to win any money.
Most of the surveys I have taken have not been very short, but Greenfield always lets you know how long it should take you to take the survey. Of course the time will sometimes depend on your answers. If you answer 'no' to every question, your survey will be short and sweet; answer 'yes' and you open up a whole other line of questioning based on your 'yes' answer.
I would assume that people in unusual demographic categories have higher chances of winning money, but this is only my personal speculation. I don't really know how they determine all of that. All I can say is that thus far I have not been very pleased with my Greenfield Online experience.
