*** UPDATE NOTICE ***
As of Wednesday, October 31, 2002, this program is no longer available. Epinions should consider removing this program from this category since it is no longer active, nothing new can be discussed about it, and users cannot sign up for it.
*** UPDATE NOTICE ***
AllAdvantage is one of the original "pay-to-surf" programs on the Internet. I've been using it since Sept 99 and I've not regretted doing so, dispite my original skepticism.
Registration for the service is pretty straight-forward. You fill out your name, address, etc., as well as some marketing data. The data is used to ensure that you'll see ads that you are likely to click on.
The advertising bar is about a 3MB download. As with nearly every "pay-to-surf" bar, you will need Internet Explorer 4.0 or better. Once you download and install it, you're up-and-running immediately. Any time you are using your web browser, you rack up cash at a rate of $0.53/hour.
Currently in the U.S. they are only paying for a maximum of 15 hours. If you are a hard-core 'net surfer like myself, you'll burn through that in a week or two, so you have plenty of time to go run another advertising bar *muahaha*.
There are also opportunities to earn money by referring your friends and placing banners on your web site or on banner advertising programs like LinkExchange. For your "first level" referals, you earn $0.10/hr for each hour that they surf, and the next 3 levels of referals after them earn you $0.05/hour for each hour they surf.
All of this works very nicely - when it works. In my experience, aproximately every other upgrade is unstable and buggy. Currently I am using a "buggy" version that will randomly prevent me from opening folders on my desktop. The previous release was great, but the version before that continually crashed after telling me time about a program I have never installed (go figure that one out). Overall, however, it isn't a big pain in the butt - especially for free cash. :)
And, in the end, the only thing that really matters is that they pay up, right? And they do. Once your account hits $20, they will cut you a check. It takes them about 45 days to process it, but it will get there.
So you can be sure that you can't go too wrong with using AllAdvantage.
