I've been using bluemountain.com for a number of years now. I've always found it to be a good place to find just the right (or at least pretty close to) card to send for any occasion. The selection of greetings is very diverse, as you'll see later in my review. The service is FREE. Who doesn't love free? Not I! There are categories for cards that you'd never dream of seeing on a free greeting card website.
What is it?
Blue Mountain is a free, online eCard service. Allowing you to send a greeting card to anyone with email.
The Process
Blue Mountains is simple to use. All you need to do is enter your name/email address and the name/email address of the person to whom you're sending it to, preview your card and hit send.
The Good
Card Categories
· Anniversary
· Baby
· Birthday
· Congratulations
· Encouragement
· Fare Well
· Graduation
· Forgiveness
· Friends
· Love
· Missing You
· Religious
· Support
· Thinking of You
and tons of other cards such as cards per special holiday (e.g. Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, 4th of July, even GroundHog's day-- my birthday, send cards to rachel@coollink.com on 2 Feb! heh)
Excite/ Blue Mountain merger
Now that Excite has purchased Blue Mountain you can log in (using your Excite username/password) and send cards to persons in your Excite address book without having to hunt them down. Also, if you haven't got a person 's(whom you were sending a card to) address already in your address book, you may choose to add them while you send the card.
New Features
· Send a gift certificate-- they offer the option for you to send your recipient a gift certificate (that's with real money, I assume using a credit card, perhaps PayPals as well, although I'm not really sure). These gift certificates are available from various merchants (to name a few: eVinyard.com, marthastewart.com, Northwest Express, and Timex, along with a few others) and are available for various sums ranging from 20$ to 200$.
· Send a gift attachment-- you can send your recipient a gift from various online merchants as well. Some include: Proflowers.com, AT&T pre-paid phonecards, and DisneyStore.com, along with a few others.
· Enclosed attachments-- You can send, along with your eCard, a voice file, a photo, or a video file, for a more "personal touch". This service is free.
Other stuffs
Most of the cards at Blue Mountain are animated and have music accompanying them. A lot of the time you can chose the kind of music you wish to hear, others are default.
You can send your card to multiple recipients at a time if you wish. Many of the cards have poems. With some cards you can opt to trash the poem and write something special yourself, however, some you must use the poem given. For certain cards, such as birthday well-wishing, congrats, and some of the like, your recipient has the option to send you a "thank you" card. I think that feature's pretty nifty. Also, you can choose to send your card immediately or send it on any date in the near future.
With each Blue Mountain card you send you have the option (recommended) to send yourself a copy of the eCard-- just in case it gets lost along with the option to be notified when the card is viewed.
The Bad
There's not a lot of bad things I can say about www.bluemountain.com , but you often have limited customization. When I say this I mean that if you choose a certain card, you aren't able to change the pre-set text of that particular card. While you can always add a personal message, the text that is pre-assigned to that card is just that, assigned. You've not got much creative control.
The artwork is less that appealing sometimes. It often reminds me of poorly done clip art. While this isn't true in every case, most often it is. I've seen countless "stick people" considered the card's art. The term "art" is used rather loosely around there, it seems.
I use BlueMountain on a regular basis, as many people do and I just love it. If you can't find what you're looking for there, try Wicked Moon. They offer less pre- set messages and nicer art for their free eCards.
