Blue Mountain is yet another on- line greeting card service that you can turn to when you want to send someone an e-card. This is one of the first services of this type that I ever used. It's good a good number of services to offer, but it's not without its flaws.
Basics of this Service:
Blue Mountain offers a excellent selection of e-cards, broken down into approx. 20 different categories, with between 5 and 10 sub- categories in each of the major categories. There are both animated cards and non- animated cards.
When you first logon to the site, you will notice a calendar on the left side of the screen, showing all the major, minor, and virtually unknown holidays and celebration days that are coming up in the next month. Blue Mountain provides this service to show that there is a reason to send a card on just about any day of the year. If there is a major holiday coming up, Blue Mountain will highlight this holiday by displaying a special selection of on- line greeting options, pertaining to this holiday, right above the major category section.
In addition to the card service, Blue Mountain also offers translations into several different languages; e-mail reminders of important events, like birthdays; a gift center; and screen savers.
What's Wrong with this Service:
Blue Mountain is a very useful site, but it does have one major flaw that needs to be corrected. When you select a card, you are given the opportunity to type a greeting in the heading, and then a personal message. This is standard for all greeting card services. The problem here is that the personal message section is much too short! Instead of having a text box to type in, like other services use, Blue Mountain has 5 seperate text lines to type your message. These lines do not wrap around to the next line, when you type. Instead, after you finish one line, the cursor will just stop, dead in its tracks. You then have to click your mouse on line 2, and type the next line. Once you have completed all five lines, there is no more room. Your message is therefore limited to five short lines of text!
Blue Mountain does allow you to specify a date and time to send your card, along with the option to send yourself a copy and the option to be notified when the recipient reads the card. This is standard with most greeting card services. But one other thing that Blue Mountain doesn't offer is a way to change the font, size, or color of your text. You are stuck with only one way to display the text.
Final Thoughts:
This service is pretty good overall, but they really need to make some changes in the personal message area. I can accept not being able to change the font, size, and color. But I can't accept having limits on the length of my personal message. I could understand if the limit was, say, 500 words or so. But this service limits you to five lines, which is about 50 words!
Other than this, Blue Mountain is a good service. It will help you when your in a pinch, looking for that last- minute greeting card to send to someone. I give it a thumbs up.....barely!
