*** Well some time has passed since using Flycheap and the tickets arrived safe and sound. My credit card was charged the proper amount. And the tickets came priority mail. Thus making this experience very good, and off without a hitch! Now hopefully I can get my frequent FLyer miles with this.... ***
****** UPDATE 02/27/01 ********
I have used this service a couple times now since I first posted this. Flycheap seems to be the best way to find cheap airline tickets without having to subscribe to each airline's email list. I found a flight from Portland, OR to Toronto for 275 per person, return. Most other flights for the same day (this was around X-mas time) were around the $700 range. Thank you flycheap.
********END UPDATE *********
After looking at the different airline web sites trying to find a decent price fair across the country, we decided to use Flycheap.com. And it payed off well. The minimum price we were looking at for flying from San Francisco to Toronto, Ontario was around $500. A little pricy when there could be something cheaper. The first time we logged in at Flycheap.com, we found flight for $307, very well priced. But no thinking very much, we decided to wait and see if there was something cheaper. And after a two week stint of looking twice daily, the cheapest we found was $475... a kick in the pants after seeing the cheap flight before. But on a whim on day, I looked and saw a flight for $299! And only a small stop over in Chicago, so that was OK by me and I booked the flights.
The good thing about this service is that they look for the cheapest possible flight for you. You don't even have to ask for it! Although some of the flights require a stop in another town en-route, it is a small price to pay for saving a couple hundred dollars.
One downside to the service is, the price changes very quickly. Within a matter of 15 minutes the price of $299 went up to $326 when I wanted to book the tickets. But that is a fault of the airlines, not Flycheap(I think).
I called their customer service with a question while booking, and I got to talk to an actual person! Which was quite a releif for an automated booking service, and he was very helpful and polite.
Would I use this service again?
Definately.
