My brother and I were preparing to go to New York City for spring break in April. My mother had been working up there for a few months. It was supposed to be a great trip, a time for us all to bond. But flight prices are so high around that time of year. I had seen a commercial at the end of "Wheel of Fortune" for priceline.com so I thought I would give it a try. I went in and filled out all of their information including my debit card number. I read everything carefully as possible. I covered it with a fine tooth comb. They sent me what I thought was an offer about an hour later via e-mail. Thing is, it wasn't an offer, they had already purchased the tickets and charged my card. That was okay, it was still some-what of a deal.
Unfortunately, my grandmother died about three days before we were to leave. We had to cancel our plans and fly my mother home. We attempted to change our reservation, maybe until the next week or use it to fly our mother home. Yes, it said that the tickets were non-transferable, but there was no way we could use the tickets, it was impossible. They didn't care why, they were not sympathetic to our cause. I was just a faceless person who had already paid her $800. The decision was made, family was just more important and I had learned a hard lesson. Never expect people to understand what you are going through, especially if it is run like a bureaucracy.
My recommendation-Go to travelocity.com. They give you a variety of OFFERS that you are not automatically required to purchase. They also understand and will take the time to listen to your problems (not like a therapist).
