Man, between HomeRuns and Kozmo I may never leave the house again! No seriously, I'm one of those freakish people who *likes* to go to the grocery store. I even clip coupons out of the Sunday paper for relaxation... I know, odd... My point is that if HomeRuns can even appeal to someone like ME, it must be a great service!
And great it is. First, they gave me ten bucks off my first order. Nice. Then, when my order arrived (right on time and exactly correct) they had included a big fresh pineapple and a lovely welcome note. The delivery guy was super professional and pleasantly efficient--and he didn't make me feel weird about the no-tipping policy!
The website mirrors a grocery store experience enough to even satisfy *my* needs. I've even picked up the odd impulse purchase, like yummy, spicy-chicken sausage and a self-rising dough pizza. They have a decent selection of products and their "house" brand items have always been high quality and fabulously fresh. They even have sale specials that have been priced lower than local supermarket specials... I love it!
While they *do* have a minimum purchase of $50 they will take coupons, credit cards, and checks--so they've made everything as painless as possible. Payments are processed after the orders are delivered so the correct prices, coupons, and credits are included properly. Most of the time anyway... Keep a bit of an eye on credits--I've had to remind them once.
Customer service has always been great. Especially because this is a new service trying to break into the Washington, DC market--I think they're eager to please. And please they do! My second order came with a stuffed animal gift... What will they think of next?!
The only thing I've had a problem with was a chicken pot pie. It was delivered one day *after* the date it was recommended to be consumed by. No problem, customer service refunded *twice* my purchase price *plus* gave me a $10 credit towards my next order. They offered to bring me a new one, or give me the above offer--again, a great choice of services.
So, while I highly recommend HomeRuns in the DC area, users need to keep a few things in mind. 1)Check your orders and keep an eye on your credits. 2) Check the expiration dates of perishable items. 3) Remember that you have to order at least $50 worth of groceries and that you have to give them *at least* 24 hours to deliver your order.
I sincerely hope HomeRuns DC is able to conquer this tough market. DC is a fast-paced city with high expectations and a staggering number of high-end shopping options. If they can keep the quality high, the prices reasonable, and the service competent--this will be a boom market for HomeRuns.com! Long live the service industries!
