A majority of the complaints against Proflowers.com is that they don't look very fresh when you get them. But if you look closely, they do come with a little note telling you that they're just a little hungry and a little thirsty. Put them in some water and add the enclosed plant food, and you'll have BEAUTIFUL flowers that last for days.
Buying flowers for my mommy
My mom loves flowers, and she can actually manage to keep them alive longer than anyone else I know. And she seemed very happy with the flowers we (the three kids) got her last year for Mothers Day. Last year, I ordered from FTD and got a beautiful arrangement from our local florist. (You can read my review on FTD in the appropriate category.) This year, I figured I'd give Proflowers a shot.
I knew I'd be home from college by Mothers Day, but I didn't know if I'd get out shopping in time. So I logged on and found the perfect bouquet for my mom - two dozen carnations. They cost $39.95 plus shipping, and I paid an additional amount for Saturday delivery. (They don't deliver on Sunday, so I wanted them delivered as close to the holiday as possible.)
Then they arrived...
And they arrived on Friday. Sure, it's great that they were quick and everything... but I paid EXTRA to get them delivered the day before Mothers Day. I wrote to Customer Service about this, and they apologized for this rare occurrence. To make it up to me, they refunded my shipping charges to keep me a happy customer. (It worked.) At least they're quick.
The flowers did look a little sad. They came in this big long purple box adorned with the Proflowers.com logo. (If you're going for the complete element of surprise, you're not going to get it.) The flowers I ordered did not come in a vase, so my mom had to arrange them herself. But that wasn't a big deal, because she doesn't mind doing that anyway.
But once she cut the stems and put them in water, they perked right up in less than an hour. Two dozen beautiful red, white, and pink carnations and a sprig of baby's breath. And they smell so nice! They are very fragrant.
5.24.00 update. It's been well over a week, almost two weeks now, and the carnations are still as beautiful as ever. These are some of the freshest flowers I've ever seen, even if they didn't appear that way when they first arrived! How often can you say your cut flowers have lasted two weeks? Now back to the original review.
Final thoughts
If you want pre-arranged flowers, Proflowers.com may not be the way to go. You have to do a bit of the work yourself. As long as you don't get disappointed at the way they look fresh from the box, you should also be very happy with the quality of the flowers you order. They do ship them directly from the grower to ensure long-lasting freshness. They also ship flowers very quickly, so you may want to be very specific about your order instructions as far as delivery date is concerned. Overall, a very pleasant flower delivery experience.
