I have the worst luck

Let me start off by saying that I think that Mercata is a great site. It is a great idea. I'm just a moron. As my friends will attest, whenever I have any money I spend it as soon as possible. Have you ever heard of the saying a fool and his money are soon parted (or something along those lines)? Well the original went, "Rob, you are the dumbest t*rd ever." I liked the old one better.
Anyways, I digress. The point of the matter was I had to go on this web site for work and ran accross their top 10 powerbuys. I was somewhat p*ssed that I had to do this project, because I had been sleeping in my office when my boss dropped by with the aforementioned work. As I drunkingly wiped the saliva off my face, my boss greeted me with his usual, "Didn't I fire you?" Man that guy is a riot. So I gave him my usual, "I'll tell your wife you molest little boys", and guess who got another raise?
To continue, I am in the market for a portable phone. The reason for this is because I have once again lost the phone part of my phone. In case I haven't yet mentioned this point I'm more simple-minded than any movie featuring Carrot Top. (On a side-note, I believe that Carrot Top is one of the clear signs that there is a g-d, and he in fact has a sense of humor. I also beleive that to watch any movie with CT in it is a quick hint of what hell might be like).
So I was on this site and found a phone and answering machine for just 49 dollars with a 20 dollar rebate. Also mercata takes off about 20%. I didn't think twice. Hell it's rare enough that I think once, I'm not going to push my luck. Evidently that was not a smart idea. My paternal unit was over at my apartment, saw my phone right out of the box charging, saw the manufacturer (V-TECH), and said, "Son, you are the dumbest *sshole in the entire world. And you're adopted." It turns out this company isn't known for their high quality. It also turns out my dad is a lousy drunk. (Another side-note, why won't epinions let me use words that they deem objectionable? Where is my freedom of type?)
It was just a could days later when I realized what one problem was. I came home from work and found that I had messages. I pressed the button and was excited when my brand new phone told me I had 17 messages. It turns out that whenever I get a phone call even if someone hangs up at the beginning of the message I counts that as a message. I'm sure that won't get annoying.
