Charged me today for an item shipping in a month!

Yesterday, I bought one of the new, and still unreleased, Compaq IPAQ Pocket PC's for $470 and change on egghead.com. They aren't shipping from the manufacturer until 7/1, but with the memory and silicon shortage, I wanted to ensure my place in line.
I do my banking online, so when my card is charged, I know right away. Egghead charged my card for the purchase! Industry practice (if not even a matter of law?) is to not charge the account until the time of shipment.
Now they have my money interest free. Why is there incentive to ship this to me in a timely manner now?
So I go to their site to complain. I find my order easy enough, but it's difficult to find some place to complain. Because I was logged in to my order via https, every new page would pop up an "unsecure content" warning.
So beware. Egghead now has my money. They'll ship my product "whenever." I'm anxious to receive it and don't want to cancel my order, but this experience with egghead.com has not been positive.
[fast forward 3 weeks]
I cancelled my order. Another vendor had the product for $5 less and free shipping, a savings of $10. AND the other vendor does not charge the credit card until the item ships.
