The saying goes that one mans trash is another man's treasure. Ebay exploits this proverb to the fullest. With its total free market biding system, sellers can walk away with mega profits and buyers can find rare goods and common goods such as computer parts and CDs can be found at bargain prices.
Ebay requires a credit card to post an item but it only charges a refundable $1 per item and they get 1% of your sale price, but I have walked away with unimaginal profits on computers I buy on sale and re-sell and so on.
The best feature of ebay is that it has a great easy to navigate interface for shoppers and to buy all you need is a registered email address. Ebay runs a great service to email you when certain items are up for auctions and gives you a detailed listing of what you have bidded on won and sold.
I have tried a few other auction services online and Ebay demolishes them all. It is by far the safest because you can check up on your dealer and ebay even insures purchase. I recommend ebay to all my friends who want to sell stuff and they all love it too.
