Fat and Skinny

My sister and I have opposing opinions about fat and skinny and we always have the same argument (that's what old lady sisters do). She's a full blown long term anorexic (5'2" under 80 lbs.) I'm 5' 105) . She says in our society fat is totally acceptable. According to her no one fusses at fat people when they eat. No one makes an issue of what they weigh or whether or not they exercise where everyone watches her and comments because she doesn't eat and over exercises.
I see an incredible amount of attention being paid to overweight people. We have entire industries based on weight loss, gyms, exercise equipment , exercise videos, Big Size clothing stores, diet pills, diet farms, diet food and fad diets. I think heavy people are always aware of trying to lose weight. I've yet to meet an overweight person who is happy with their body. There were entire episodes of "Oprah" devoted to her chefs and her weight loss issues.
I see our society idolizing women who look like lollipops, half the cast of Ally McBeal look like anorexics with Calista Flockhart being the worst. Kate Moss is a top model. We have children as young as 9 and 10 turning to anorexia (starvation) and Bulemia (binge/purge).
Its only in our era that sizes 0,1,2,3,5, are available. In my mother's day size 10,12 was perfect. Forget the Rubenesque women. That voloptuos look is long gone.
There are hundreds of weight loss spas , I know of very few eating disorder clinics. The one I'm familiar with (Renfrew is $600/day)
Our era is very health oriented and yet we have these two extremes. Both unhealthy, emotionally and physically. .It's a shame we can't do something with the next generation. Put more emphasis on personality, brains and heart for instance. Let children be children not young adults. Maybe if there was more fulfillment and less stress they wouldn't have to turn to or away from food for control.
