Go Cold Turkey!!!
Jun 16 '00
I started smoking my senior year in high school and it was not until a year later when I was smoking a pack a week... Then it was 2 packs a week... I started smoking more and more, and it did not seem to concern me a bit. It's only 3 years later now, but I have to say, I had to quit. My chest felt heavy, and I could not breathe well, plus the nicotine in the cigarettes I smoked kept me up all hours of the night and made me very hyper.
The first step in quitting is admitting that you WANT to quit. That's what I had to do. I made a commitment to myself, and myself only. I was not quitting for anyone else but ME. That is another important factor - do it for YOU. (BTW If you are a woman who is pregnant, you should not be smoking at all... do it for you and your baby).
The second step is "cold turkey." Don't even have your "last" cigarette. START NOW.
Third, keep that commitment you made - will power helps here. How bad do you want to be healthy and live? How much do you want to live to see you grandchildren's children. (If you said you could care less, you show signs of a weak commitment and probably will not last).
COMMITMENT! That is the key - and ending the smoking ASAP... without ever picking up a smoke again - don't even think of it and when you do, concentrate on something that makes you happy in life (such as your child, spouse, pet, even a movie).
The bottom line? If you WANT to do it, YOU can stop smoking!
