Can Anything be Any Harder???

I have been a pack a day smoker since I was 15 years old. Talk about immediate and severe addiction! I have tried quiting three times now over the last several years, but I have yet to fully succeed.
I have almost 18 years under my belt as a smoker, and it's amazing that I have yet to experience any significant health problems. Blood pressure's normal, but it doesn't take me long to get winded. Not cool!!!!
The first time I tried it cold turkey. I think I lasted two days before I went bonkers and drove to the nearest gas station. I wasn't even out of the door before I was unwrapping the pack and lighting up.
The second time I used Wellbutrin. I think I got the sugar pill, unfortunately. Absolutely nothing happened for me, and I never even quit smoking (going three hours between cigs doesn't really count as "trying to stop," now does it?).
This past January, I actually had an epiphany that smoking was soon to catch up with me and that I was wasting about $1100 annually for my habit. Hell, heroin costs less! I quit cold turkey, more determined than ever to quit. I did incredibly well for the first several weeks, and then like an idiot I finally stepped foot back into a bar. I smoked an entire pack that evening.
I took it one day at a time after that. Some days were better than others. Some days I wouldn't even smoke at all. I refuse to give up my quest for a smoke-free life, but I still smoke. I no longer go through a pack or more a day, but I do hover around 5 or 6 a day. And that is still too darned many.
If you really want to stop smoking, I believe you have to give yourself pep talks constantly. Sometimes they'll fail, but what's more important is that sometimes they'll actually work. And one less cigarette smoked is a positive thing! Keep working on it, all of you epinions members who are trying to quit! And I will do the same. Success will happen.
