Fantastic review and (Reply to this comment)

pretty scary stuff. As a Phen-Fen graduate, I should know to be cautious, but sometimes the most innocuous (seeming) products can be dangerous. Thanks so much for the information.

I'm sure you warn a lot of people about the dangers of certain drugs that they didn't know about. If helpful information you wrote

This is scary. I tell you, I will never use Dimetapp again. I used it once when I had a cold at work, and I had a severe hallugenetic reaction to it.

I know a few people (Reply to this comment)

who took Dexatrim for years. Isn't it nervewracking to find out that a study of these pills are done many years after the person starts taking them?
I know they have to go by statistics and that takes time.
Thank you for the important info you provided. It's nice to know these things.

It's interesting to me how companies don't care about human lives when they decide to make a buck. There are so many unsafe products out there that people are cashing in on, and it makes me even angrier when this happens with something as close to people as weight loss. We live in this society where thin is beautiful...and heavy is not. Now, I understand the medical/health reasons to be of a healthy weight, I really do. I'm a diabetic with a metabolism issue that makes it very very hard to lose weight doing anything less than exercising two hours EVERY day and eating virtually nothing...figure that one out. Makes life hard for me. I am so glad I read this review (though I am anti-diet pill/medication anyway) before taking more drastic measures. I'm trying to lose weight to save my life, not increase the risk that I'll lose it. Thanks again!

Thank you for bringing the importance and severety of this issue to our attention. I'm sure that anyone who watches the news or catches an occasional glimpse of a newspaper has heard that something was going on, but many may not have gottent he details. Your opinion has also made me more aware of reading labels to check for ingredients that may be questionable, rather than assume it's safe.

Amy, your solid research and the work you've put into this review might help save a life. My accolades.
As one who has graded hundreds of university student papers, I know the difference between "copying" and a well written review that is based on documented facts. Night and day. To suggest otherwise, even facetiously, is irresponsible in the current Epinions atmosphere. And then to further joke that you'd stoop to revenge rating? I'm shaking my head in disbelief. Anyone who is familiar with your work and contributions to this site (fairly rating thousands of reviews with supportive and helpful comments) will put no credence in such a lame prank.

First off, I meant to comment earlier, but couldn't get it to take. Fabulous review! Thanks for going to all that trouble to research AND for bringing up such thought-provoking points and questions. It's great to have you as a source - you truly are an expert.
Second, I did have to chuckle at the earlier comment on copying... The same "lighthearted" joke was leveled at me when I did a piece on marijuana. The person who said it didn't really mean it (as it was obvious, like in this piece that every single word was my own - and I too cited a million sources!) but I was so bummed that I pulled the piece! Plagiarism is the #1 deadly sin on epinions, so it is a hard one to throw around jokingly.
That said, it is blatantly obvious that the person was joking (and the other 'joke' about revenge rating - if anyone knew you for more than 2 seconds, they'd know that is an impossibility!)
Thank you for doing a piece on medicine and actually using statistics and facts. God forbid people start posting their original thoughts on things as serious as drug overdoses and calling it "fact."
You RULE!
XOXO

Steve, that is horrible. I am so sorry to hear that. How sad for her and her family, and all to lose weight.
FYI I didn't actually "copy" anything here, it is all in my own words. However, the concepts were not original, they were taken in bits and pieces from other articles and I don't want anyone to think I am claiming these as original ideas.... so I put the disclaimer in there, just in case :) I did reword everything and tried just to use research materials to support the facts; however, a lot of what needed to be explained were the facts themselves and I can't claim to have "invented" some of these technical explanations, etc.... I just put them into "laymens" terms. Some people might say that is original work, but I didn't want to have any misconceptions later so I tried to reiterate my sources....
Thanks for reading -- hope that helped explain it...
Amy :)

it didn't come from your head at least you have brought it to many peoples attention and made us a little more informed in the dangers of diet pills, thank you.
You took the job of finding all of this information and for that you deserve a HR.
Great review like all of yours.

For shame! Amy, you copied this review! LOL (Just joking - now, don't go and rate my reviews NR).
I put on this fat all by myself over time so I guess I have to take it off over time as well too!
I had a friend who took diet pills and one day I wonderedhy she didn't make it into work that day. We called her son to check up on her and he discovered her dead in bed.
That opened my eyes to diet pills - Stay Away from them.

And what timing! I just saw this headline on the front page of the NYT this morning, and less than 12 hours later, you've covered the essential points and translated the medical jargon into language understandable to the Epinions community at large. Kudos to you!
