Hard to make wise choices
Nov 17 '00
I have been heavy all my life. I have dieted since I was 10 years old in one way or another. I have not been able to do it on my own. Let's face it, I like food. If it tastes good it is not good for you.
A support group should start with your family or those closest to you but they are probably the last person or persons that a "dieter" wants to listen to. I know every time my mother or husband says "do this or that" I tune them out.
However, I did try a support group in the community and found that it was a lot of help. They had good ideas about what foods to eat and what foods to avoid. Also how to make healthy choices when eating out. They did not criticize nor ask how much weight a person lost or gained. That was private unless you chose to share. I was able to lose and keep it off for a while.
The bad part about support groups is that they tend to cost money and healthy food can get expensive. On a limited budget a person may not stay with the group or with healthy food for a very long time. You have to be committed whether with a group or by yourself.
