I LOST L00 LBS IN A SUPPORT GROUP

Pro: They work if you work it
Cons: You must still have healthy diet program
I have been on every diet imaginable. I have even been in the hospital to lose weight. The only time I was really successful was on overeater annonomous(OA). OA is a wonderful support group that meets in different locations at 24/7. When I was on OA I went to meeting almost daily. I called a sponsor daily. I had a definite program that I worked. There were tools to follow. That meant writing down my menu before I ate. Speaking to a sponsor. I also had to write on various topics daily. Finally, I had to call three other people besides my sponsor daily. There were suggested readings and writing on feelings besides the above.
Reflecting, on it OA worked because it was number one in my life. It seems as if my day revolved around the program. It worked because I wanted it to work. I only got on a scale once a month but that was okay. Because, I was busy working the program. I talked the talk and walked the walk. We had retreats which I attended. My friends were predominantly OAers.
I think the best part of OA was that everyone related to my feelings. I felt very important when I shared. People clapped after I spoke. They never told me what to do but they understood my feelings. It was as if we were the same. Here we were hundreds of people from all walks of life sharing the same feelings, having the same problems. It was awesome. It worked because together we could do what we could not do alone.
I must mention that an OA there was a higher power and he was there to support you. I think that without the belief in a higher power the program would not have worked. Looking back that may have been the key. I am on a support group online. We are all strangers trying to get in shape. The caring and sharing is there but there is no belief in a higher power. This is very spiritual and only feeling it can it be understood. I knew that my higher power was guiding me. He was with me and with out him I do not succeed.
In order for OA to work one must reach rock bottom and know there is no way out but death. I know that I can not sink any lower. Even at this point I know that I am among the walking dead. I am limited it what I can do. No doctor or medicine can help. My help can only come from a higher power and the people that feel him. We were and are one. Our higher power guides us thru the steps. The are twelve steps and twelve traditions in OA. One must accept them. The first three steps are accepting a higher power into your life. One must only open the door a little and the rest will follow. But, without reaching rock bottom and accepting the higher power. A person is going thru the motions but not really getting anywhere. OA means giving your life over to a higher power as you understand him, living your life totally honest. Then thru the steps one can find serenity, peace of mind and lose weight, As long as a higher power is in your life follow the steps and work the program as it is suggested.
